saw this on the ABC news this morning and was quite shocked that a city the size of Broken Hill could run out of water, Would have thought there would be artesian water there but maybe thats all gone with the Gas Mining that has happened up stream.

They could send a few big trucks down to Wonthaggi, South West Gippsland, VIC and tow away the desal plant as it's not needed there. I know they would need salt water thiugh so run a long hose behind the trucks.
Sorry, not a laughing matter. Serious business for sure and I hope they get through without much drama and someone comes up with a solution very soon.

A few years ago Brisbane's water supply got seriously low (Before the 2010 floods) 5% if I remember correctly.
Goulbourn was even worse off. Many outback QLD towns had run out of water. Not sure what there situation is now as there has been storms and showers out that way for a few weeks now but whether it is enough to make a difference or not I don't know
It only take a few years without rain to realise just how good our water supply is and how arid most of Australia is.

Bad that however little rain there is, that towns and cities in Aust are running out of water. Despite fracking, there is still plenty of potable water in the Great Artesian of which inland QLD sits on
WA has the most waterless State in the country, but we don't have this situation happening. Water, electricity and waste disposal should be a given in this developed country. Look at Kalgoorlie and all the towns on the way from Perth - they sorted the water problem over 100 years ago by running a pipeline between the two.
There is plenty of water all year round in coastal parts of QLD, so how about piping it to the inland areas if they cant drill for it - dont give me costs - these country folk are entitled to water as much as the "city" folk. Maybe they need to make a lot more noise with their pollies. I bet they keep filling their swimming pools !!!!!
Sorry - this is not supposed to be political, but its that lot who can change the situation (or we get rid of them.....at the next elections)
If you people are heading to Broken Hill, You had better fill your Water Tanks before going there..........
