That reminds me of one Christmas a few years back. I usually receive a box of dark chocolate coated ginger from one of my kids, because they know it is one of my weaknesses. This time I didn't receive any at all. Seeing the surprised look on my face at this unusual occurrence, my daughter said "Sorry about your chocolate coated ginger dad, the dog ate it..." Apparently their cattle dog cross tore open some of the presents, found the box of ginger and ate the whole box. And I always believed that chocolate was supposed to be lethal to dogs in that sort of quantity.

We had a blue heeler x kelpie who took a whole box of Lindt chocolates I had on my bed ready to give as a gift. He ate them wrappers and all. Had some pretty interesting nuggets in the yard after that!
