We have an 85 Coaster and the radio is a digital one but crap, We bought a 2nd Coaster for the engine but the one in that is crap also. So what I am looking for is good radio reception, Mp3 playback and input jack. Where do people with Coasters install the speakers. Ours has 2 speakers (In roof lining) one about a metre back from the seats the 2nd one is 2 metres back further. I'm sure the speakers could do with an upgrade but where is the best place to mount them. The drivers door would be ok for right side but how difficult is it to remove passenger lining?

when I had a Coaster ( 77 mod ) I had two large speakers mounted high up in the over-head rear shelf, also another two on each side of the front passenger compartment above the doors, there was a new radio/C.D./ mp3 player fitted into the dash, in easy reach of the driver and passenger,

You can get an App for your phone which allows you to connect to the almost any station in Aus and have it come through your radio. You will also need a connecting cable from your phone to the radio about $6.50 at Jaycar. As long as you have phone reception you have perfect radio.

Try alpine single din radio has bluetooth connectivity / ipod/cd player/usb input and headphone jack, try the new radio with the existing speakers and see what the sound is like, the blue tooth also has phone book search. The phone book search facility will depend on the type of phone you have.

Its called Radio Australia. I use Aldi Mobile which uses Telstra G3 and is VERY cheap.

Morning Allan,

Have just been down the same path, over the past couple of years have gone from the Transit (Ford) radio, rubbish reception, tried two portables, some improvement, however lousy sound quality.

Just before Christmas I bit the bullet and had a Kenwood KDC X700BT http://www.ryda.com.au/Kenwood-KDC-X700BT-CD-USB-Player-with-Bluetooth-p/kdcx700bt.htm radio installed with an exterior antenna, a very good unit with excellent AM and FM reception, have been using it in the bush with good results.

Also a CD player, has a remote and a USB port so you can play music from a USB memory stick.

The only down side is like all modern radio's, it's not as simple to tune as the older dial type tuners, however a little time reading the manual takes care of that.

I'm sure there are others equally as good, however this does everything we need.
