Info Please. Travelling to Townsville next June to visit our daughter and son in law (army) and thought we would check out the Mereeba Rodeo,We want to stay at the rodeo grounds. Looking for info on what time to arrive so we can score a powered site ( no bookings taken ). We can survive without power but for an extra $3 pn why bother. Cheers Wayne & Di.

Hi camping is available at the rodeo grounds while the Rodeo is on , We found the camping at the rodeo grounds very crowded and waste water runs free from site to site but there are lots of people like it there . We stay at a great caravan half way between Atherton and Mareeba called Walkamin Central which would be about 15 min drive to the Rodeo grounds .

Hi Di & Wayne, The last time I was at the Mareeba Rodeo was in 1970 so my advice would be useless!! But, the info I just found on the link below might help a little. It might pay to call them and talk about it. Have fun. The Rodeo I saw was great!! www.mareebarodeo.com.au/accommodation/
Cheers, Bob

Hi Folks ..
I personally would arrive 2-3 weeks before the Rodeo Dates ..
Approx. 1.5 weeks before the Rodeo, the sideshows etc will move in and take up prime locations for the duration ..
Being there early gives you the chance (to ask) to be placed in a position so that you will not need to move camp a 2nd time before the Rodeo.
Don't expect to get a powered site 7-10 days before the Rodeo starts ..
If you pay for a powered site that covers the duration of the rodeo, then you will get those days extended to your time on the site .. (Rodeo Days are classed as free)
I've spent 3 out of the last 4 years enjoying the Mareeba Rodeo ..
I'm sure you will too ..
