Perhaps one wants the work & the other doesn't.
or
Quality from one (at a price) & a cheap quickly from the other.
I'd go for a few more quotes.
It's good to have a 'family' Dentist as well as a family Doctor who you can trust.
Our health Society has lists of Health Professionals to choose from if you want to go that way.

When it come to a choice which price to go with it is very hard to know if you made the right decision as it will be a number of years for the results to show up if the cheaper job was shoddy.
There are good dentists and poor workman but we have no way of knowing which is which.
Before I retired I decided to have a lot of dental work done while I could afford it, alas the work was poor which showed up 5 years later so I now have very few teeth left, but what is left is looked after for the last 15 years by a very competent dentist.
Are the quotes for identical work on that tooth or is the lower quote just a stop gap measure that will last you for a few years.
Cheers
David
I have some bridges at the upper front and suddenly developed a really sore tooth that one bridge was attached to.
As we travel full time I went to the nearest dentist I could find, an older Asian lady who x-rayed it then proceeded to tell me I needed a root canal and would give me a written quote for the work which could be paid for in 3 installments.
The quote was around $2k+ ! She said she would not remove the bridge as it was too difficult so would drill through it to perform the root canal !
I made the follow up appointment to start the work but the more I thought about it the less happy I felt, so decided to get another opinion.
I went to another dentist, a lovely young Aussie bloke who did another x-ray and then said he could remove the bridge easily and I would only require a small filling underneath. The cost was going to be considerably less at around $400.
I went back and had the simpler treatment done, no hassles at all, no root canal, he even placed a small titanium implant in the underlying tooth to strengthen it. His final words were that it would now probably now outlast me ! All up $450 due to the extra implant.
All dentists are not created equally some see the mighty $ first.
Some of the best dentists I have seen have been in govt run dental teaching hospitals, one in Perth is absolutely fantastic, and they have the latest gear and technology, and give pensioner concessions !

Reminds me of when I was getting married - went to my (future) wife's dentist who basically took one look in my mouth and then told me that was all british work, not much good, and would need redoing. I literally just got out of the chair and left! 20 something years later and I still haven't been to another dentist - or had any problems. I believe that dentist retired a year or so later so was wanting to top his pension fund up maybe
