I gave up credit cards when one company started charging 7.5% . I now only take cash. I work for myself , not for the banks. Bill

12 months ago I went to pay the bond & 3 months rent on a rental shed. The real estate agent refused to take cash. From past business dealing I believed they couldn't refuse. They didn't give a damn, I could go whistle as far as the snotty nosed receptionist cared. I had to go put the money in the bank & come back with my eftpos card.

I rarely carry cash these days and refuse to do so in any largish quantities. Besides, my pay always went straight into the bank account so it was just natural to use a debit card (not a credit card).

We always use a credit card, one you pay upfront for the 'privledge' and the 'rewards' always exceed the upfront cost. Also carry some folding stuff but if wallet was stolen I'd be more upset about losing license, cards etc than the cash.
Never had a debit card but always willing to learn.

We gave up on credit cards years ago too. A debit card each does everything a credit card can do except charge interest.
I believe even a Realestate Agent would accept a debit card.
Merchant charges can be a significant factor in a small business and I have come across a few who only accept cash.

Actually it isn't a debit card, it's a keycard. The only time I use a credit card is if the purchase exceeds the maximum daily limit on the keycard, then I transfer the money over online from the keycard account, to pay the credit card use, straight away.
Gday...
It would appear that small businesses are indeed suffering unfairly from the impact of fees/charges for accepting credit card payments.
I guess we should be more accepting of those businesses in the inland regions we frequent who don't want to accept 'card payments'.
This is a bit of a long read, but it does shine the light on how, like so many things in our society, the "little bloke" suffers.
