My name is Doris and I am new to travelling in my campervan,or will be when I can really start doing some trips.I bought a Mercedes Sprinter in October 2013 and spent the next few months using it only to visit family.I was waiting until I got it air conditioned and a antenna put on it,then was starting to plan a trip to Tassie. However my plans come unstuck on the 29th of May,when I fell and broke both my ankles - one very badly. So after 3 surgeries over 4 months,19 days in hospital and lots of time incapacitated and recovering at home,Tassie is off the agenda for now.I am hoping I will still be able to do the trip.but it may be another 18 months before that will happen. With this in mind I want to start planning some shorter trips, with the ideal being that I am not too far away from medical help, due to ongoing problems with my ankle.I live in Hervey Bay and will be travelling solo, accompanied only by my two small dogs.I do not want to allow my disability to dictate my ability to do some travelling, but need to keep in mind the limitations I now have.I am thinking for the next few months at least I will do trips to northern NSW and further up the coast in QLD.I also would like to go to the Stockmans Hall of Fame in Longreach.
Anyway really just saying hello and am looking forward to gaining some knowledge from these forums.

Thanks for the welcome Bluesman., Know what you mean about aging and still thinking we are very young. When I broke my ankles the people who came to my rescue called the ambos and the cops who were passing the scene pulled up to find out what was going on.Both the ambos and the cops referred, over their radios, to the situation as "an elderly woman who has had a fall" I objected strongly to the elderly tag as I am not even 60,which to me is not elderly either. Not sure I will ever be elderly, mentally anyway.

Hey Doris ,i'm with you on all those points.
I think we are just coming up to middle aged.I don't think you're elderly till you are in your late 80's.
