Hello all - this may be 'food' for thought!!! Happy travels.
If you travel solo or are thinking about it, youre not alone. The number of solitary explorers is on the rise. Heres a list of reasons why travelling solo is actually quite amazing.
1. Making plans each day that include ONLY the things and places you want to do and go.
2. Eating all of the food you want to eat. Whenever you want to eat it.
3. The freedom to change your plans on a whim and no one will even know the difference.
4. Never having to wait for anyone, especially if youre anxious about timekeeping.
5. Getting lost and finding your way all by yourself.
6. Reading for hours in a park or cafe.
7. Spending hours browsing market stalls and shops.
8. Not having anyone to answer to anyone if you decide you want to scrap your plans one day or dosomething you shouldnt do on holidays like stay in bed all day or go to the movies.
9. Walking around museums at your own pace.
10. Not having to talk to anyone all day if youre not in the mood.
11. Speaking to random people in random places.
12. Faffing and not feeling bad about it.
13. Sleeping as late as you like

The only negative I find about being solo is getting lazy and not doing things you might otherwise do if you had company. But overall, I prefer my independence.

Hi Nelly, This just about describes my life also.
I have to agree with Gary though, I find that there are things that I don't do and places I bypass, as a solo, that would probably be visited as a couple, or with a travelling companion.
Whilst most of the life as a solo is positive, there are times when the quietness and lonliness gets to me, doesn't hang around for long, and it would be nice to be able to share some of things that I witness with somebody else.

Yes Doug I did - 'FOOD for thought' - lol!!! Yes I can understand where some of you are coming from about being on your own - not having someone there to see that beautiful sunset/sunrise or that beautiful landscape with you but I suppose the upside is that at least you can say that you have seen it where some people never try to go and see these things or can't go for different reasons but I hope to get out there and have a look around a bit more - it won't be until next year now but that is the plan. Anyway keep well all you GN's and happy travels.

I feel the same way but take the odd pic and talk to the blog and forum at night, not the same as sharing it at the time but it is all I have and better than nothing.

Howdyeeee Nomads, I was a Solo full timer on the road, for a year , loved everything about the Solo scene, but I longed for F/male companionship, and along came Julie,

I was travelling along nicely enjoying the autonomy of solo life when suddenly my son decided he would join me to try to sort his life out. Wonderful you might say but holy @@#@#@ at 37 he is living in my van with me!!!!.
I now have to wash more often (clothes that is, not me), buy more food, cook more meals, think about what I need to have in the cupboard and the list goes on. While I love him to death and want him to be successful in his new life venture I forgot what it was like to have another person living in close proximity.
Made me realize that basically I am a selfish old woman and any wonder I have been on my own for 25 years. LOL
