When not hooked upto 240v I use the USB through the 12v system via Cig sockets. I have seperate leads, one for the Ipad and one for the iPhone. I also have a 12 charger for my Lap Top I got from Jaycar that has different fittings and settings, choose the one that suits your Lap Top and all is good. Been doing this way for 3 years now with no problems. Works for me.

better off charging off 12v as no loss, off an inverter you have power losses. Just use a cig socket. We use one for iphone and ipad Cheers Allan

I think you will find that you cannot use the same cig lighter charger for the iphone and ipad, the iphone charger will take all day trying to charge the ipad because it is only 2 amp output where the ipad charger requires 5 amp.

I think the Apple Ipad chargers are closer to 2.5A at 5.2V . But some of the cheap ciggy lighter USB outlets can only supply about 1A.

You can get Cig. lighter adapters for apple gear with two usb sockets. One rated at 2.1 Amp for iPad and one at 1.0 Amp for iphone. Try some where like Supacheap or Autopro.

Agree with Alan, get a usb cig plug with a 2 and 1 amp. just remember to charge the ipad on its own, that is not with the 2nd cable charging,, otherwise it will take days. When 2 cables are connected, it charges at 1 amp only in each.

We use to have 12vlt chargers for all the mobile phone, laptops, and now I-pad as the 12vlt chargers get expensive when you change the mobile's and laptops we now only have a 300watt pure sine wave inverter which does the lot, as all the units come with a 240vlt charger we find this is the cheapest option.
