I inadvertently totally emptied my tank and now the pump won't prime. I know there is someone out there who can tell me an easy way to prime it.

Hi
Naughty, but not uncommon.
The further the distance & the higher the pump is above the tank, the harder it will be to prime
But most are selfpriming.
IF accessible probably the quickest way i:
[a] ensure the tank is full
remove the tank outlet hose& temporaly block the outlet & with a hose& with say the sink tap turned on force water through the pump then quickly replace the outlet hose
IF the pump non return valve is working well it should hold sufficient water in the suction line for the pump to prime
It may be worthwhile considering fitting an Extra nonreturn valve on the suction line at the tank outlet
.If you do that simply prime the suction line with a hose, ,refit to tank then fill tank

Thanks Peter. I'll give that a go. Gail had food poisoning and I had lots of buckets to empty during the night so I wasn't watching the guage closely enough!

Chris, I usually turn the pump on open the tap and suck on the tap or if you have a shower remove the shower head and suck on the hose, that easy.

Hi all! Thanks to all for your help. I just had an idea that since I was now connected to town water, there may be enough water in the pipe above the pump to pull the water out of the tank. So I turned off themains tap and turned on the pump, then turned on the sink tap while the pump was running. Bingo! It worked.
