I know these are used in some vw campervans currently being fitted out as a cheaper option than gas.. I'm interested in experience. I don't like my little cheapie gas one with the $2 cans as its not very good for simmering corned beef etc. I don't have the space for carrying gas. Thought I may buy a single one for my Tasmania trip in January. Someone I met on the road had one and recommended it as she can use it inside or pull it out from its pullout drawer thingy and carry outside. There is only one person travelling so I don't want dream pots type things.
Thank you... Robyn

I dont like the spirit stove i find they soot upyour pots. For the gas stove buy a simmer ring sits on top of existing burner .

Robyn,
I use a thermal cooker like the Dreampot only a generic to do corned beef. I just bring the pot full of water with the beef in it to a boil on the can stove and simmer for about 5 minutes and throw it in the outer container for about 8 hours or more or even less and it's done overnight or by dinner time and ready to eat. Really handy on the road. It earns it's space in the campervan.

My advice is get yourself into an induction cooker and cookware. The spirit stoves are used on boats and sailing ships (small) They recon the metho is safer than gas.
If you are short on mains power or have none the spirit stove would be ok.
Safe travels

Hi Robyn
I have had a single burner one for a while and I love it.
Metho is so clean and safe.
To stop the pots getting black I add about a teaspoon of water to a Litre of Metho. It burns just the same but stops the black

If it's corned beef you want to cook I agree with jetj. Get yourself a generic thermal pot (I bought mine at Aldi) and you'll never taste better corned beef. And the benefits of cooking thermally are that it doesn't cost much to be 'cooking' all day! It'll cook much more than corned beef too. Last time I saw them in Aldi they were $99. Only come in with camping specials.
