That is such a shame as they are such beautiful birds.

Ok I don't know much about that particular bird but the mallee fowl cracked a mention there, well I can't speak for other areas but here in Northern Vic around the Ouyen area there are more Mallee fowl here now then there has been in my lifetime mind you I am sure DEPI burnt lots of them last summer at the Bronswing fire (. A fire that should not have been anywhere as big as it was but that another story ) I were there on our fire truck when the fire burst out on the southern side along with lots of Mallee Fowl but this is not the only patch of scrub that they live in, also there are more Wedge tail eagles around now then I have seen in my 57 years living here and don't even start me on kangaroos numbers. I would like to know where and how they get there information from, and I bet they haven't lived in the areas that they sprook about the only endangered species around here is us farmers .
Ok end of rant.

I had a brief read..
The one major issue with the article is the Likehood of them getting a burn in that area [ via the DPE ] is minimal...
90% of the Area's burnt are the area that were burnt Last year.. In some cases it is ridicules, as the areas being burnt seem to be the areas where the RICH and FAMOUS love to take holiday's..

I reckon true blue Aussies will be extinct in 20 years too judging by what I see here in Melbourne every day.
