As the topic implies I have just returned from a weeks camping on the Murray at Strathmerton. My 120 watt panel set was linked to a 100amp deep cycle batt. I then had two 50 litre Waecos, one was set at 1deg for my daily food use and grog. The other was at minus 10 deg as a freezer for my frozen meats etc [and ice creams !] The entire set up was in direct sun and the fridges were covered with a space blanket for 5 days.Daily temp was @ 36deg av at most . Part shade was minor and the set up was the worst case scenario ! I opened the freezer only twice daily and the other hourly [thirsty !] I pre cooled them prior to leaving home [75 mins away ] and sat them in the tinny not connected till I arrived and set them up. They worked perfectly from Sun till Fri when I went home . Since I had my gennie with me as backup I went out of my way to not appear efficient at all ,however the whole set up was ideal.Miy panels came from Low energy. The other guys had other brands too [all of them had very inferior supports ].A real good test run since my van has an 80 watt on the roof this will be great as backup when we do the big one .I have a Pajero and the panel sits in its bag behind us when the rear seats fold forward.Very happy John.
I only have 1 small fridge going off about 130 w solar and I have 2 batteries.
It recently went for 3 weeks in very hot ( some times ) and I was also happy.
I also use it to charge the phone and computers and run a small fan.

Sounds like a good set up John. It's always good when the Solar and 12v System are set up properly and work well.
I know I put a lot of work into the old Avan and now the new owner can also enjoy the system.
Keep enjoying the playground John.

Hi Allan .One of the guys did a check on all our units on the second last day mine was 12.2. There was 4 of us using them ,I was the only one with 2 fridges cause I get sick of going for ice. John. PS. the photo is of our night watchman in the camp at night .
wont last,, amp output exceeds inwards current,, sorry. You should be thinking one 5A panel per fridge,,
and then allow for rain! ;)

Hi Pete.Your kinda missing the point,I go away for 5 days ! thats it ..I emptied the freezer an hour before leaving the site and it was still minus 9deg ,I put it in the tinnie empty and when I got home it was still minus 6 deg. This is as good as it gets for my wants.I have no interest in any calculations when a product meets my needs .Cheers john
