The other day (while at Glen Innes ) I started the ute & the oil pressure light stayed on.
Shut it down & checked the obvious. All seemed in order.
Hoping it was the oil pressure sender unit I called RACQ ( we're Qld based ) and got put onto NRMA.
Gave the lady on the phone the details and waited for the breakdown guy.
15 minutes later he was there. Sure enough the sender unit was full of oil so that was the likely culprit.
The NRMA guy phoned around. Found the part in town. Went off & got the part. Fitted it & that was the answer.
All this running about ( had to find a special tool ) and all fixed within an hour,smiling all the time.
I payed for the part and all was good.
Interestingly, the Holden part packaging said "Made in United States".
All praise and thanks to the NRMA service & the Glen Innes breakdown guy.

NRMA service people are excellent have not had to use very often although twice in the last year, roadside serviceman was very friendly and helpful and I only waited less than fifteen minutes from time of call

Just curious.
Is having the oil light on classified as broken down? If you were in Glen Innis could you have made it to a mechanic safely?
Sorry, not meaning to be picky but I would never think to call the NRMA unless my car won't move or I'm out of town with a chance of a major problem happening

He did the correct thing in calling the NRMA as it may not have been the sender and if the car was driven great damage to the internals could have been the result.

Be careful if you travel inter-state and are with the RAC (WA). Even with their premium call-out service (about $400), if you are out of WA, you get only basic service which is almost worthless. The other state motoring organisations offer a far better insurance package - so check around and see what theyre all offering

I have nothing but high praise for RACQ Ultra service and the attention that we received earlier this year down Bateman Bay way.
Tilt tray to workshop, caravan parked at in the caravan park, hire car all done so smoothly. Great work and thank you. Ralph.

Is that First Hand experience or Friend of a friend's nephew knowledge?
In my experience, we had a problem in Merimbula several years and were transported to the local caravan park (with van) and the car (80 series cruiser) was taken next day to a workshop in Bega for repair. Sourcing parts
and repair was over a week during which we had caravan park paid for plus the use of a hire car.
As the repair was to take over 48 hours we could have opted to have the car, van and ourselves transported home to Bunbury WA (where we lived at the time).
We are on the mid range coverage. (was RAC Plus, now Classic I think, $160 pa.).
I have nothing but praise for the roadside assist.

I certainly wouldn't keep driving a vehicle with a faulty oil pressure switch. Ive had to go to several where the switch has failed & nearly emptied the sump of oil. One in particular leaked all the oil out with out the light coming on. This resulted in one damaged crankshaft.

All I was thinking, being already in a town, just a couple of blocks to the nearest mechanic would not have damaged anything but I'm no expert so I will bow to superior knowledge.

Looks like I might just have to put my hand in my pocket & get RACQ Ultra to cover the poor old Patrol .... 1996 & 360,000 km. Must be just about ready for it's first breakdown.
We found that NRMA insurance was the best priced for our town car, a current model Mazda3.

We have 2 cars, it was early this year we decided to look into a Ultra and found it to be a few dollars more then for the 2 policies covering both cars.
Yes also we are now doing longer and away more often, the peace of mind is great. It was the first time we have needed help in 8 years (I left the lights on) got my money back and lots more after tilt tray, caravan park fees, car rental and local knowledge with help to get repairs carried out.
It was a automatic oil cooler hose that failed and parked the car where it happened. The club organised the lot it was the done every so smoothly, we enjoyed our time in Bateman Bay beautiful weather, great caravan right on the river, pleasant walk into town. Ralph
