Being a patriot I've been resisting shopping there but due to convenience I did yesterday.
Well I filled two carry bags with as much Aussie made stuff as possible and bugger me only $40.00 which I reckon would have been far more at Woolies etc.
Now I see the attraction, it's a far larger saving than I thought. And there are private label Aussie made goods which was another surprise.
The Aussie made chocolate was 1/2 the price of Cadbury for example.
I might go back.

Yes Woolworths IS Australian owned, as is Coles.
Both are part of companies that are listed on the Australian Stock Exchange, and a large part of their ownership is held by our super companies.

Aldi also have a preference to stock product produced in country where they can, what does this mean?
It means that if they are presented with two equivalent options, they will choose the Australian one.

no matter where I shop I always look for Australian products..
especially when Ardmona were in trouble... I use a lot of chopped tomato's in stews and basically was just picking up anything... probably leaning towards Italian canned tomatos as I make Italian stews...
but hey... as if our own tomatoes aren't just as good right?
so now I make sure all of our fruit and veg are Australian no matter what shop im in...

Be careful with Italian Tomatoes as many of them are sourced out of China.
Secondhand info but I Believe China are now selling Veggies into New Zealand which are being processed and sold as Product of New Zealand.
I have a cousin who grows tomatoes at Rochester so have been looking closely at where products are grown.
I am not against China just wary of their quality control

I love seeing lables on fruit juice saying "made in Australia from imported and local ingredients" such as fruit juice "poppers". Whats Australian....the water?

I think you will find that Italian tomatoes are just that, basically the largest cost in a can of tomatoes is the labour to tend the plants, pick the fruit and process the fruit.
Southern Italy now has one of the cheapest labour pools around, thanks to the illegals that make it across the med from the African continent.
The same is true for many of the veggies coming from Europe.

Basically check where it is produced by the comments on the back of the pack and if it says produced from New Zealand and Imported product it has Chinese vegiesin it, put it back on the shelf. I would even go as far as to say, even if it has product of New Zealand on it, I would be suspicious about where those vegies in thatpack come from. I suppose to play it safe unless it has been grown and packed in Australia stay away from it unless you dont mind digesting poisons. Pretty scary stuff!!
