I look through the Forum nearly every day, and enjoy most of the posts.
We have just returned from an 85 Day trip of 8700klms.
We left home in Boronia and wended our way to Rockhampton. There we
annoyed our Son for a while. Then we went up the highway through MacKay,Bowen,Clairview,
Townsville. I digress a little here 'cos I pm'd Dougwe for info on stopping points
in and around Townsville. He was kind enough to reply and give some advice.
I missed one on the way up but checked it out on the way back. His advice was
excellent. We wended our way to Cairns and did quite a lot of the Touristy trips
that were available. A change to look at what was going on, and not be told to "Watch the Road"
Some fantastic countryside. Visited Kuranda, rail up & Sky rail down, fantastic. Even SWMBO
enjoyed it, and she's scared of heights. Went out to Atherton came back through Gordonvale.
115 Bends on the road, made interesting driving. We turned around and came back through Ingham, Charters Towers.
Visited the Longhorn "Ranch". Woollies closes there on Sundays. Came down to Clermont, Emerald &back to Rocky.
Popped into the Gin Gin showgrounds $18 ( nice spot) our friend was involved in a music gig there. Organization was a bit ho hum,
but in the main the music was good. Next port of call was Bundaberg, Kingaroy, (Showgrounds price is $25 pernight for 2 )
Gundawindi then to Coonabarabran to restock our books. Then to Molong ($20.50)and to Cootamundra. Nice warm weather
early 30's. Beechworth was the next day 17 degrees a bit of a culture shock. Benalla was a little warmer(not much) Then
home and I now have a cold. This is a glossed over version of our trip, but what we saw was really remarkable, the scenery,
the people we met on the way. Our country of Aus is truly a remarkale place, we went to places we'd not been or seen before.
We are proud of being GN's, this forum has given us ideas, laughter, sorrow, and the occasional What The!!! So thank you all for your input.
I will now disappear into my little hidey hole to emerge at a later stage. (Hopefully cured of my cold)SWMBO says it's a sniffle!!!
Apologies for rambling on.
Kevin

Glad you enjoyed your trip, and chose to share it with us. Love travelling - new places all the time, or some familiar and favourite old ones.

I'm looking forward to no longer being a gunna and being a beenie instead. Is that right? If you're no longer a gunna are you a beenie? Anyway, it'll be great to have a history of places I've been and things I've done - just like you Peter P - instead of wishing. My operation is due in Feb, then recovery for some months, and then? I'll be on my way to becoming a beenie.

G,day Kevin,
Firstly I hope you get over your dose of the "man flu" soon.
Having just returned from our 6 month "lap of the block", reading the names of the places you mention brought back some nice memories.
We spent a fair old slice of our traveling time exploring the Townsville, Cairns, Innisfail, Atherton and so much more, areas. Being from Perth we were about as far from home as possible on mainland Australia but both the Mrs and I fell in love with the area. Definitely going to come back and for longer. We would even think of moving there except that the family would be too far away and we would miss the grandies waaayyy toooo much.
So much to see in this beautiful country of ours.
Cheers
Rod

Yes Rod, we loved our journey into the unknown areas. We tried to go to places we'd never been to before.
We are settling down to plan our next trip. (Man Flu is being ignored by SWMBO with statements like "Suck it up princess and get on with it."
My dreams of being pampered and looked after went away.) Our future plans will look at ... Up north to Darwin then possibly down the west coast and back across the bottom. Ahh the joy of planning, then on the journey tossing it in the air and doing something different.
