G'Day, I'm fitting new magnets and the current hurdle is how do I compress the plastic grommet that the green wires go through so I can pull the wires - it's the same fitting seen on electrical 240vac appliances. I can brutishly remove it but would like to know the other (proper) method of removal.
Hi Den , get a pair of pointy nose pliers and pinch the tang , there is a groove on the tang and the opposing side of the cordgrip , once you have squeezed the tang it should slide out quite easily . regards Den

So squeeze the tang in the 2nd picture...then push in toward the axle? - cannot really see the back except with a mirror/camera. And then to reinstal slide wire thru grommet then push grommet with wire thru back of backing plate.

I may be wrong, but I thought you would remove the 'key' which is the top part of the gromet in pic 2. The just remove and slide the wires back thru the hole. ie you dont remove the rubber gromet.

Ended up doing a search and found they are called an "Electrical Strain Relief Bushing". Plenty about fitting them but had to dig hard to find removal which was by the method Exa41 described which is not as easy as it sounds. The grommet then pulls in away from the backing plate.
I found the high temperature wheel bearing grease I'd used about 2 years ago (Caltex) was very runny and nowhere as thick as when I did the bearing so this time I'll change brands. If I remember rightly, back a few years if you left the grease too long in the hub it dried out and became soap-like.
Thanks Glen for you suggestion as well which also sounded feasible to me.

The cord grip is usually made of pliable plastic , it has a groove to locate the tang , it needs to be squeezed and removed in one piece.
