Whilst trawling through various state and territory legislation re. safety chain connection to tow vehicles I came across this regarding THIRD PARTY INSURANCE. (see attachment) It seems some states cover trailers etc. under the tow vehicle registration and some require separate cover. Could be a mine field for the unwary.
Thanks for posting that Alan. I was totally unaware of those requirements which add another layer of bureaucracy to an already confused situation. Why we can't have a single system of road rules and licenses and permits that apply to all jurisdictions escapes me.
Regards
Dave

The big question is "has anyone personally been booked yet"
In the absence of someone actually being charged, it is just one of those horse and carriage laws that are on the books but never enforced.
Imagine if it was enforced - they would get no interstate vanners in their caravan parks and as all free campers know, caravan park owners have superman powers.
But it is interesting and thanks for posting it.
Good Luck

The major issue would be not wether you were charged but the insurance problems that would ensue if tug and van were involved in an accident. This only applies if the van is registered in a state where it is covered by the insurance of the tow vehicle and is towed by a car from a state that requires separate CTP cover. This situation could arise if a friend say tows your van maybe to get serviced because your tug is out of action

Yep! Insurance companies usually look for a way to avoid paying claims.

I took it as a truck towing a trailer not a van

In NSW whatever you are towing is covered by the compulsory green slip insurance which covers injury to others if you have an accident.
Cheers
