We seem to get a Few subject's that sort of keep popping up..
Do we need a Few Articles Written by the Technical inclined [And vetted by All] as a basis of an information Guide of what is required for thing's Like..
- Inverter's
- Solar Panels -> Solar regulator, Solar Panel Types, Fixing of solar Panels.. Wiring etc..
- Batteries -> Type Pro's and con's, Charging requirements
- General information Cabling for solar system's..
And the reason I said technical inclined, Is I think if we put our heads together we should get a few good Stickies that should give people the basis of generic/Basic system's..
All the information can be collated in 1 main item related to the stated subject.. A Reference guide..
Juergen..
Also I'm not saying that I'm an expert, I'm a Dabbler in many fields and Like to know thing's.. I ask HOW, WHY and drive people nut's..

Good idea SnowT
Some basic info would save a lot of typing time answering the same questions over and over
things like
satellite systems-basic setup and gear needed
electrical leads-typical length
Water and drain hoses, sizes and typical lengths
Hot water systems, anodes, tempering valve maintenance tips
just off the top of my head

Basic information is good when 3 or 4 experts in their trade start
debating on a subject to get a win who cares
also the right heading some one might ask a question WHATS THIS THINGY
how do you search it

I agree entirely, and believe that each of the primary documents should have an owner, the owner should pull together the initial draft, publish it, and be open to receive suggested changes to the document.
When a suggested change is received they can then negotiate with the group, and the negotiations can go on separate thread to the document published on the sticky.
This way new people can find a document without all the associated debate, and the techies amongst us could still enjoy their lively debates about should the screw be turned once or twice.
Thus there would be the sticky with just the published document, that may be revised by the owner form time to time. Then a second thread in the body of the forum that would be used to debate changes to the document.

Brilliant idea.
However IMHO the information needs to be correct, not stilted to a pet aspect of the debate eg standards, short cuts or high tech jibba jabba.
Should be aimed at a normal non techo person.
ELECTRICAL advise, other than basic stuff should be banned!

Thinking a bit more about this and the idea popped in of a "document or info file " area where the info is stored for all to read but not post to.
can be updated by a pm to our moderator.

Out come so Far..
- I do like the idea of getting the information from various source's..
- Make it concise, factual and correct..
I tried it with my inverter post and would like to do the same..
As I said I'm not an Expert, I'm a Dabbler in various fields ....
We just need Cindy to Ok it....
And Yes Phil Anything Related to HARD wiring[240v does need to be kept out of the forum's, as it can cause issues related to Certification] and insurance issue's..

Yes I agree Happy..
The descriptor for any of the technical Stickies would have to state what it's about..
-- Basic Inverter Principle and Wiring system's..
> Inclusive of All thing's Related to Inverter..
-- Battery Basic's..
-- Solar Panel systems and Control of solar charging..
Personally I can only talk of a few thing's that I have dealt with.. As I have stated I'm no Expert, I'm a Dabbler in most thing's Electrical/renewable..

Great idea ... But ...
So many Technical discussions between 'experts' on these forums usually descend into points scoring & are of little real use to those seeking practical information. It would be a very Solomon like task to come up with an agreed document. A lot of work as well.
For my part, when I need good reliable unbiased information on RV electrics including batteries & solar, along with so many other RV topics, my first stop is one of Collyn Rivers' publications or articles. (Just google Collyn Rivers). I usually get them from my local library. I might put them on my XMAS gift list.
I usually just lurk when the forum experts are at it, and try very hard not to get involved in the discussion.
Perhaps any 'sticky' or whatever aught to have a mandatory list of authoritative technical references included. That could include any relevant Standards or Laws.
Having said that ... I still think that this is a worthy idea.

Theres quite a bit of information on Waeco fridges ive put on this site. But its can real only be found by a search. Ive had people find it by googling Waeco & the model number, & its led them to this site. Then the only way they can get an answer is if ive received an Email. On other forums if an old thread is posted on, it returns to the top of the threads, but not here.

HI Cupie
The problem with that is much of what will be put up will be based on years of EXPERIENCE & undertstanding of BASICS
Where there are Authorititve sources they should be posted
But what /who is an authoritive source
I certainly consider Collyn one, yet I have seen some strongly disagree with him
To such an extent that he rarely posts on any forum due to the stupidity of some who constantly disagree
THOSE whose whole working life has been based on particular fields,do not need to seek such sources
They KNOW from years of training & practical experiece
Such posters are on this forum they include such as PeterD ,JR, Old Bob, Frank T ,dare I say Myself, AND several others!
YES , we often do have different "opinions", that is not uncommon in any field, including Drs, Lawyers etc
Do we ask for" Authoritive referances" when they say you have "xxxxxxx'?.
I do not know who could VET any article without brining their own BIAS /views into it
All that could be hoped is that a consenus could be obtained for the final article
But discussions on such would probably have to be by PMs otherwise al the armchair experts would be putting their cent in

As I said earlier, I think the idea of the stickies is a great one, and the comments posted here are all good and valid, I think maybe we are trying to make it more complicated than it needs to be, people with a technical interest tend to do this in the interests of accuracy, and completeness.
My view, is that the sticky should be aimed at the layman, the person who is not an expert, and probably does not want to be or need to be.
It should set out the basic principles, a relatively high level view of the topic, some guidance that would give the reader a basic understanding, plus some knowledge of the right questions to ask of an expert.
Probably some key words to search if their curiosity has not been satisfied.
While there is often lively debate on technical topics it is almost always at a detail level one or two steps deeper than the sticky should go. Thus I suspect there should be little debate about the contents of the sticky.
If the reader then wants to use the keywords to search deeper, then that is their choice.
The reason I suggested the sticky should be edited by a single owner, was to avoid the debate on the actual sticky itself. If there needs to be debate keep it separate, and then the results of the debate MAY be a change to the sticky performed by the owner.
