We have just returned from a trip through parts of Central Highlands of Queensland.
A couple of great spots to book mark.
Boynedale Bush Camp South of Calliope (free)
Bedford Weir just north of Blackwater .. (free)
Lake Elphinstone south west of Mackay ( free)
And the best of all
Lake Theresa.....20 klms south of Clermont. But has a fee of $10 per night.
We went to L. T. for a couple of days, and ended up staying 11 days, and really did not want to leave.
We were camped 3 metres from the water edge. MAGIC spot. Great for Red Claw.
All are listed in CAMP book and also with Wikiecamp.

Agree, We were at Boyndale last week (it rained) and also Bedford Weir. Great camps, shame they have closed the dump point at Bedford - we saw one RVer emptying his cassette into the bush as we drove out.
