in a farmers paddock (not grain, just short cropped, dry "grass") about 800m off the main Northern Highway. No obvious old mining activity in area. What is it (we have no idea)?

c'mon guys - stop giving me a hard time about my tent or lady company lol - in the Pilbara WA so 'net connection not brilliant - got to upload the reduced size of the photo I actually want people to look at (no - not her bum) and tell us all what it is.......probably be bout a week before I get good Telstra coverage again
It looks like a bore to me, more than likely they move it a few hundred meters at a time around the station looking for water.

From memory it's an old mine of some sort, somewhere around the Kalbarri turnoff .

I have traveled that road since 1989 many times cant say I,ve ever seen that one but being croping country must be just north of Binnu .In the 30,s or there about there were lead mines near Mary spring farm and west of the Gallina bridge on the Murchison river.

It is on Northwest Coastal Highway about (guessing now) 20km north of the Kalbarri turnoff on the left heading north.

The "thing" is very old and would weigh many tonnes, so they wouldn't move it - looks many years old. Its at Mary Springs which is between Murchison River and the Kalbarri turnoff on the Northwest H/Way.
It wouldn't be used for holding water or crops as the actual storage size in relationship to the total size is small......the lead mines idea of jrg is the most likely.
We're staying in the C/P at Northampton at the moment and intend to take the local museum (it only opens twice a week) a copy of the pic to see if they can either identify it or stick it on the wall and see if one of the locals knows what it is. The people manning the Info Centre here didn't know it or what it was.
Maybe its Aussies attempt at putting the 1st Roo on the Moon - it is kinda rocket shaped!!!
And Wombat - sadly the pic is not mine and she doesn't grace the inside of my tent - if I take a few of my pills and lay down for a while, I can just (only just) remember having female friends with bodies like that and (no.....stop.....the ladies will get angry with me) :))))))
