Ford Ranger 2.5L Auto Dual Cab (how much should I tow ??)

Hi All,
Just looking for a little last minute advice. Have just disposed of my old van and getting something a little more modern and more comfortable.
My concern is the towing weight. I can legally tow up to 2250 kgs. However, nobody wants to be towing the very maximum (A) for safety reasons and (B) just leaving no room for error.
What I am looking at is a Jayco Destiny, it does have shower/toilet combo so it is putting the ATM Weight just about right on 2000 kg's. Is there someone out there with a 2.5litre / Auto Ford PK Ranger that is towing a van of similar weight ?
Would be really interested in having a chat on how it performs?

Keith, simply put, I would not tow more than 2000kg IMO only.
Not a Ranger but I have a Colorado capable of towing 3,500kg but will be only towing around 2700kg max soon, all being equal. My choice. I reckon by doing that I won't be making the Collie work hard even though it is capable.

If its rated to tow 2250kgs, go for it. You can be sure there's a safety margin already built in.

The older twin cabs were fairly conservatively rated. That was the days before the uprating war took place. A lot depends upon how fast you want to climb hills. I often worry about the attitude of these blokes that chip the modern engines, do they have an aversion to changing gears. If you are prepared to allow it to climb the occasional hill in first gear and a few in second then the truck should serve you well. I did a lot of that with my Nissan E20. It got me up Clyde and Brown Mountains quite a few times.

I would just like to thank all for your input. One thing I have learnt over the years, if you aren't going to take the advice offered, DON'T ask for it.
Having read the replies I now feel comfortable with the notion that if my van has an ATM below 2000kg, and I observe the weights a little on the conservative side, my choice of van with an ATM of 1930kg is going to suit me fine.
Once again, thank you all for your input, it was an important issue for me to get my head around before I actually picked up this van.
