Hi teacher.i need advise from travellers not car yards.the motorhome that has all my needs is the above ford transit. I am getting very mixed reviews on the motors. Are the newer ones better? Next question if they arnt reliable is A Fiat Ducato .better

We used Transits as work vehicles in turbo diesel .. The manual versions had no troubles compared to auto transits..( telecom)
if reasonably well serviced they are fine .. I prefer rear wheel drive.. Even if wheel tubs can mean room taken ... Easier to service, better traction ..

im not sure what Transit you are talking about..
is it already kitted out?
is it unleaded or diesel?
how old is it?
manual or auto?

I have had 2 transits and they have been nothing but trouble...
I have meet peeps that swear by them but those peeps are few and far between
My personal preference would be a Toyota for trouble free motoring and ease of service and parts if ever required..
As for the others I really cant speak from experience..
I have just finished fitting a Coaster out to sell and I am very impressed by the way it has come up and preforms on the road..

We have a fiat ducato for six years no trouble at all service and parts are a bit expensive but we only get it done every 12months drives like a car and is terrific on fuel 10.8 litres per 100 ks

In your position I would be looking at Fiat Ducato. At CMCA Motorhome rallies ( 1000+ Motorhomes ) that we have attended, to me 40% of the motorhomes are Fiat Ducato based.
Have friends who have good experience with Transits, but I think the Ducato costing more could be better value, and the same/similar build on a Mercedes Benz Sprinter would cost more again. Engine breakdowns away from outback towns can be expensive tow/tray jobs let alone the mechanical fix.

There is no question about the popularity of the Fiats.
Personally I would not consider one because they are front wheel drive, which can cause traction issues.

You have probably moved on since this post but for what it's worth, here's my thoughts.
I have had a Transit turbo for 8 years and just brought a 07 Fiat.
I gotta say the Transit has been great albeit smaller than the Fiat. I had few real problems over the years and went to places that the Fiat couldn't go due to limited ability being a front wheel drive (i.e. kit doesn't take kindly to wet slopes/slippery inclines and tends to ride "through" rather than "over" bumps). Howeever their is no comparison in terms of the drivability and comfort factor where the Fiat wins hands down.
