A highway patrol officer; , no no I didn't get pulled up or booked.
I actually pulled him up in the street & had a discussion about all these new regulations on chains & shackles that have been tossed around latley with every one's opinion attached.
We should be able to beleive this as its straight from the horses mouth.
LOCAL highway patrols DO NOT have anything to do with regulating this isue. They have no data on this, no qualifactions &/or engineering experience to judge what is right or wrong in this department.
Any BLITZ that takes place is done by the heavy transport departments from the cities, they have nothing to do with local patrols.
His advice is to do what you think is proper, use rated shackles to match the vans weight & all should be good with that.
As for chains if they are the fitted chain by the manufacture then they would have had to meet the regulations of the day.
This advice was of his opinion, but again he said they have no power to judge as to what is suitable or not. That belongs to the heavy transport boys.
