I am in the process of buying a UHF CB and would like to know which 40 ch or the 80 ch are more popular as I hear they dont talk to each other at least not very well I have always had 40 ch should I stay with them

Hi Woolie, as far as I know you can't buy a 40 Channel one anymore. All new CB's are 80 channel.
I recently got a GME which works just fine!

I also have a 80 channel GME and fixed to the centre console on passenger side, next to the transmission selector. I have the hand held mike as I find that better and the antenna is fixed to front left side of the bull bar. It's on all the time until I get within about 30 mins of a city then I turn it way down or off due to the gargage and morons that abuse a great free service.

GME 80 channel installed in our MH, combined with a GME hand held for communication when parking etc, works well for us.

We have a uniden 80 chan CB, and a small hand held. Not sure 40 chan is available anymore, bit like 27meg CB.

Ditto what Santa said except we use Oricom 80 Ch radios.
Got a really good deal from an Ozzie trader on Ebay.
Had them for over a year now & very pleased.

Cause the extra 40 channels
Dont carry much traffic at all
You will be wasting mostly wasting ya money
All the repeaters are in the 40 channels you have
And the Truckies use channel 40

ok that sounds sensable I'm an ex truckie so yep I'll keep it and stuff paying for a new one thanks guys good thinking I was told the old sets dont talk to the new ones that was the main reason for the change so I'll givethe old set a reprive

My CB's are all old pre 2002 GME, Uniden that is even older and they work just fine, a little to good some times.
I am no professor on this subject the information I have read has 40 is 40 the cost to buy one of the other is questionable, I belief my old sets will be with me for some time yet, I have replaced the mike on one as the coil was fail and suspect.
Often when I have been on the road I have heard people ask for a radio check my answer is where I am and don't throw it way as it works fine.
I still have my first am cb from around 1975 it's had a few mikes and aerials but it there and works they don't give to much trouble for the use they get. Ralph.
