I've always had a problem of where to store the hitch bars without the ends getting grease over things when I get to the site.
By reversing the bars the other way and hanging them just under the A frame on a sling solved the problem.
If I'm in a area that could be a bit suspect I run the high tensile wire through the chains that I use to lock up my sat dish & solar panels.
A good cheap fix that didn't require drilling holes that worked for me.
Cheers, - John

We use a pair of woolen socks, stretch open and place each over the greasy end and store where you like.

I use old work socks for storing ratchet straps. You can usually fit a pair of ratchet straps in each sock, and it stops them getting all tangled. Looks funny with my workboots and no socks though.

On our Jayco there is a box channel across the front of the van and I slide them in chain end first, out of the way and out of sight

Thanks Happy Camper... John.
I will do exactly the same with the sock cover added.
