I've used it in the caravan, around the toilet/shower combo with great results, thanks to advice on here. But what is best used externally?
I'm referring to the silicone (?) around the joins of wheels arches etc to the van wall. its starting to minimise and part company with the fibreglass (red dirt hasn't helped).
I could look it up for you but my consulting rates are $200 / hr min 4 hrs + expenses...
Cheers big ears.

Silicone is great MJ but I used Sika Flex to seal around a sun roof externally and found it great. I didn't want to open the roof anymore as I didn't like it and it leaked so used SF. It sealed and acted like a glue no problem at all. Don't have that car anymore.
I wouldn't hesitate using externally again. I am not sure if it comes in clear though. I only saw black.
Edit........and I tell you that for free
Cloak, my rates are normally similar but based on two hours (Grey Nomad working hours 10.00am - 12.00pm.

"Sikaflex Pro" is the best sealer.
Comes in black, white, grey and probably other colours too.
In 300ml tubes or the larger (and cheaper) sausages.
Cheers,
Peter

Guy from a caravan place we went to says "roof and gutter" is good, because it is flexible as well - been on where he put it about a year now, still sticking there - bit discoloured from red dirt, but so is the rest of the motorhome!!

We used Sikaflex around boat windows, vents etc, and got a few years out of it in Nth QLD. The stuff we used was expensive compared with the normal hardware lines (probably Pro as mentioned above). The trick was not to use it too generously if you want a good neat job.
I could look it up for you but my consulting rates are $200 / hr min 4 hrs + expenses...

Ummmm, no wonder you want $200ph, couldn't find sealant on that site, just extrusions, cables etc But al least I can go build an airplane now!

Thanks for all the advice. I had forgotten what I'd used before, but it was SF Pro, that was what I used around the toilet, but it's leaving the walls again, slowly. I reckon I'll get some of the roof and gutter, thanks Jules for that tip.

Phil you might remember some of the rubber stuff we used on aircraft. Best stuff ever I don't know why they keep selling that other junk.
A few years back I picked up a ringing phone in the office for the battery guy (Panasonic) The bloke on the phone was a big wheel in a global company
wanting to sue us over our sh1t lead acid batteries. He went on to tell me how the battery connectors kept corroding off causing a massive warranty run
on their electric start lawn mowers.
When he stopped telling me how rubbish we were I asked him if they used any silicon rubber in that area and bingo yes they did. I reminded him that this
stuff is acidic when curing thus the corrosion and to go use the aviation grade rubber compounds. Never heard back from them and they kept buying our batteries.
In fact I built a voltage regulator and potted the electronics in aviation approved rubber over 30 years ago and it's still like new.
Cheers.

Yeah Cloak, we had the same issue with the HEIU on the Macchis at 2FTS. Every bay service the copper protection inside would come back corroded to billio. Found out the silastic we used was acidic set. Went to the new neutral set and the problem went away.
I agree on the jolly brown framie goop, probably carcinogenic and all bad stuff but it worked a treat, there is a big storm about F111 fuel tank goop, seems it killed a few framies in later life, not good.
Easy fix with the lawn mower guy is a jar of petroleum jelly! I was with British Aerospace a while back and they used a clear, rubberised, con-formal coating on the FA18 HUD printed circuit boards, this stuff is gold. Forgotten the name but sure wasnt silastic.
Took a peek at this sikaflex at bunnings (expensive) seems its a polymer based glue come sealant and they push hard on the flexibility angle might invest in a tube.
Cheers mate, hope you are well, take care.

To get the best results you need to use the cleaning fluid recommended by Sikaflex to clean the area for a good bond.
I got all the info & specs etc on their website.

Thanks all for the feed back. In the interim I've discovered Sikaflex have an app. Yep. It's called Sika products. It's now on my ipad.
At the caravan show recently I noticed some really average jobs on brand new vans...... just saying

Pro Seal ? It is a two part about 8:1 ... It is for sealing wet wing fuel tanks. Awedome stuff.. I once used it to repair a corroded hot spot in a carburettor.

What am I best to use to replace it with?
Thanks,
