Some seem to have noticed my absence from the forum for the past week or so. To those who checked up on me I say thanks.
My father-in-law is a prospector and each year he spends about 4 to 6 months in WA, north of Kalgoorlie in the desert prospecting his leases with a couple of mates. This year his eyes have packed up - very aggressive macular degeneration. It got so bad he did not feel confident driving.
He made it to Kalgoorlie and had his eyes tested. The optometrist also said he should not drive - so he needed someone to go over and drive him, his car and van back to Gippsland in Victoria. I volunteered.
I flew out of Melbourne last Thursday week (11 Sept) and got to Kalgoorlie that night. I have only just got back to Sale Saturday night. Hated the flight over but enjoyed the drive back - camping all the way. What great country to be forced to drive through and camp in.
This year has been somewhat draining - more than 12 months actually - with "family issues" ... but I guess family is 'blood' so they get first dibs on our time.
Hopefully 2015 will be a much more 'normal' year - and LOTZ of travelling.
OH ... and by the way be warned ... I will see if I can catch up on the Today In History waffle.
Cheers - John

How,
John, good to see you back with us and you have travelled safely from the east to the wild west and back again. I hope all is on the improve and as you say, 2015 a better one for you all.
Take it easy and enjoy if you can. Might see you somewhere in the playground.

Hi John, good to see you back.
Sorry to hear of your ongoing "family issues". I can...and do...empathise with you...but as you so rightfully said, family get first dibs on our time.
Hoping that you will soon be back travelling and enjoying life in the playground.
Cheers.
