My Dometic fridge, model RM 4211,  when running on gas in a breeze, the pilot flame will blow out if the vent is facing into the breeze. I'm not talking about Gale force winds, just any light breeze will shut the flame down. It will then ignite itself until the next puff of wind.

Before you all spring to your keyboards, let me outline these past 9 months trying to sort this out.

I took the van to a caravan repair establishment twice in late Jan. the first time they blew out the jet after taking the vent cover off. I had to take the van back again a week later and this time they slid the fridge out and took the jet into the workshop for a good air clean, all gas pipes had the same treatment. Even tried to blow the flame out manually. All OK for a short time.

The next Caravan Shop found that the main jet had not been cleaned and this was done with some rust being removed. All OK for a week or so...then

I have now decided to engage a Gas Engineer who is also mystified

I have spent over $500 so far and  am no wiser.

The things I have tried are, A new regulator, covering the vents, one at a time, then both together, blocking the bottom of the fridge with wood to prevent a through draft, I always park on level ground.......and lastly sharing this  mystery with you. 

If you have any suggestions or hints you would be my mate for ever

Are you certain it is the breeze blowing out the "Pilot" flame???

The flame should be enclosed & protected from direct breeze[surrounded by covers ]

Things to check:

[1]  the Aux control circuit  battery supply voltage is steady & at least 12V

[2]The flame failure  probe tip is in the pilot flame ..

[3]It is possible the flame failure probe or control is faulity,  but that would uisually still be a problem on high flame

.[4]the pilot flame is just to small ,due to:"

[a]low gas pressure

partly Clogged gas bypass valve orifice

PeterQ Thank you for  your thoughts. The flame is enclosed and that would explain why each gas engineer got down and blew like mad however the flame kept burning.

The latest engineer will be here in the morning and I will show him your, much appreciated, comments

There isn't any need for me to say much more PeterQ is on the money..

I would be more thinking the flame failure probe is not properly in the flame..

Just by the by where do you find "Gas Engineers" I have been in the Gas industry for 30yrs and have never heard of them..

Does your fridge have the flue venting ,directly out the side wall ??

if so, does it have a  tee  on the top with  an" open" end into the fridge compartment,  or just an elbow on the top of the flue?

Re Venting the Flue, a friend has this device around 4inchs high and 2.5 inches wide that from memory is on the outside of his van that the flue feeds into. This device has sloping vertical sides ie like a vertical V, and each side has 3 or 4 holes about 5/8inch each. I think its to stop a breeze coming down the flue to blow out the flame.

Yes, that is why I was asking the question

But it can be in different forms

The main thing is to not allow the breeze to push back down the actual heater flue.
