I am a new member of the grey nomads and would like some advice on flat towing, I have purchased a 26 foot sun liner R.V. on an Iveco 3.0 litre 6 speed turbo diesel and would like some opinions on what are some of the recommended vehicles to flat tow behind the R.V. please.

Hi. We tow a Suzuki jimny on a car trailer. No worries whatsoever. We have met some people flat towing suzuki SX4s that have had different problems. The older model Vitaras don't have the same problems.
I think it's mainly up to you. We use a trailer because we carry extra fuel and some tools. We also carry a spare for the motorhome on it so that we don't have to get in the mud or gravel should the need for it arise.
ivecos are great. We so far have no problems, touch wood.

Thanks Laurie, I am aware of the Suzuki range and are looking at other options as well. I am glad you like the Iveco never know we may meet up on the road sometime

I have flat towed a Suzuki Grand Vitara for around five years behind my MH.
The only problem I had was throwing up dust and dirt despite fitting a Stoneguard on the A frame. I solved that with some anti-spray mudguards behind the rear wheels and got rid of the stoneguard.
I also changed from a Tow ball to a McHitch Tow connector.
I am considering looking at the American system now I am changing cars. I will add a link to the company in Australia. They have a list of cars you can flat tow which is quite comprehensive. Lots are American names but many are available in Australia under a different name.
PS there are others of course but I have used the Hitch N Go and the McHitch and have experience with both

We have a Winny Esperance with the same Iveco power unit. We flat tow a 5 door manual Suzuki which also serves as my everyday drive. I chose a Ready Brute hitch which is rated to 3000kg and can safely pull a loaded car with a Hobie sailing kayak on the roof. The hitch stays connected to Winny when not in use and is light enough not to give me a hernia when carrying it. It has telescopic arms so that it can be connected even on rough terrain. The locally made steel unit is only rated to 1900 kg so that you can only legally use a small car with it. I also use a Stone Stomper to protect the Suzi.
Flat tow a Daihatsu Terios - 4 door manual - behind the Coaster. Have a Ready Brute hitch. Terios only now available second hand in Australia, but is a popular flat tow car. It is relatively light, but surprisingly comfortable to get around in. Has a (limited) 4WD function, so we can go exploring off the bitumen. Chose that type of hitch for reasons mickm gives above: weight, flexibility. Is very well engineered. When we are parked up and Terios is off, the hitch folds up out of the way at back of bus.

Hi we tow a 2009 5 door auto vitara behind a similar sunliner using a hitch and go. Hitch and go's are simple and have great backup. we use approximatly 2ltrs more fuel per 100klm towing the suzi than normal.
Attatch to the car first then the m/home, we strap ours up slightly to line it up then drop it on the ball.

This is the alternative hitch I used. I am not a fan of the standard tow ball.
I like the new one it means it can be hitched up by one person.
