Our Waeco 2-way fridge keeps our food/drink cold very nicely, but has a problem. Whenever the motor and fan goes through its regular cycle it seems to have a problem with switching off, and starts up again for 30 seconds up to a minute, several times before stopping properly.
Has anybody else had this problem? what to do?

Check battery voltage at the fridge when it tries to start. Fridge is doing what it's designed to do if battery voltage not sufficient (high enough) to run the fridge.

The problem is with the end of the cycle, it doesn't seem to be able to switch off. And it happens when on mains power as well as batteries... Mr D thinks its a thermostat malfunction?

Ahh I see now,,, helps if I read it properly eh. Sorry not familiar with that fault, BUT I have a chart somewhere ref Waeco. I try and find it.
SORRY THE CHART IS FAULTS REGARDING WHEN IT WILL NOT RUN,,, NOT how to stop the flaming thing.

Had a similar problem with my fridge Gerty, thought it was the thermostat. Turned out to be a loose wiring into the fuse box near the house batteries. Job for auto electrician if it is.

The 240volt mains supply should be a transformer reducing power to 12 volts then into fridge.
There could be some loose/dirty/ corrosion, etc on the 12volt wireing into the fridge.
The stop/start antics are the typical results of loss of sufficant power to keep it running, the voltage drops so fridge stops.
When stoped the voltage then rises due to the no load situation, then the fridge reconises voltage available again so tries to restart.
Its the typical symptoms of unsustanable power supply.

What model is it & is it an upright or chest type? Doubt its a power problem, as its not switching of properly.

Its an upright, model # CR 140.
We've known it to stop-start when trying to start if batteries were low in the past. At present batteries at 13.2v and stays the same while fridge is running while plugged into 240v power. When its running off the batteries alone the voltmeter shows 12.2 to 12.8, depending on what else is running at the time.
Hope this makes sense!

Those readings are ok, like I said look for a bad connection between the batteries & the fridge.
If there is a problem there it will not show up in battery voltage, only the voltage between the problem area & fridge
Try to check the voltage from the battery all the way to the fridge, checking the in & out of all joins/connections along the way right to the connection into the fridge while the fridge is running, need the load on the circuit to find the point of failure if this is the trouble.

I belive the CR-140 fridges use this compressor controller. It has the 240V powersuply built in. If its doing the same on 12Vdc & 240V then its not likely to be low voltage. Is this fridge still under warranty?
No, its 4 years old DeBe. Even though it does this stop-start thing at the end of its cycle, it still keeps nice and cold. I have a thermometer in there, showing 4 degrees C.

If its 4yrs old, does it have this control module on the compressor? Need to establish what controlers are used & pictures are easier than just words when trying to diagnose problems.
Whereabouts on the fridge would it be located DeBe? This fridge is completely surrounded by cabinetry, and if trying to see the back of it by removing the vents, we can still only see the cooling vanes on the back of the fridge.

The controller is mounted on the side of the compressor. Most fridges have to be pulled out to see anything.
