how does everyone go? I had no idea we had so much "stuff". heaps have not seen the light of day for years. I feel overwhelmed. I just want a miniskip and throw it all in and leave but we are selling , sorting, keeping, throwing away. omg. first load to the dump today. be glad when this is over. Did not realize I was now older and can't be an everready bunny anymore. need to keep having breaks. how did you do it?

I'm dreading the day I have to toss everything out too, Rocket. If I had any brains, I'd do it a bit at a time but I procrastinate. The skip is a good idea... and maybe invite people around to a "tosser's" party hehe. But they might get the wrong idea. Anyway, good luck and keep at it. And never become a hoarder again!

Know the feeling well Rocket. I too am going through the same thing as you know and have to have a few more rest stops than the last time I moved. I have decided that there is no room for being sentimental. 9 bags of "stuff" to the tip already and I have only scratched the surface or started on opp shops yet.

We had the kids around to take whatever they wanted. We advertised some high cost stuff on Gumtree and eBay; had 3 garage sales; advertised a couple of give aways; finally resorted to skips to cart the remainder away. This was over a 4 month period. Packed what we thought we'd need into a trailer and the ute and drove to the caravan yard only to find we had to ditch probably 1/2 or more of the stuff we'd brought. Now after 9 months in the van there is a heap of stuff earmarked for the junk pile when we return to Adelaide for Christmas. Its amazing what you can live without - our house was 240 square metres with 11 main rooms and a 6m X 8m shed in the yard. We now live full time in a space that is smaller than our old family room.
You'll get there eventually and it won't be as bad as you think its going to be. Try to find something to celebrate and find time to relax.
Regards
Dave

thanks for your optimism. I am trying to cope with an illness as well (that is new to me) that saps me of my energy. today was just exhausting. Never mind, off to bed for me and a good night sleep. will wake up much better in the morning. rocket

I think you are right. no room to be sentimental. I have my wedding gown and I hold that very dear but "what for"? it's a darn antique now. one good thing, it fit me for most of the years. one lot to the tip for us today too. thanks for your support. regards. rocket.

WOW!!!!! How many of us are going through the same TRAUMA. I am about have 2 weeks A/Leave and then 8 weeks Long SL to get through my stuff. I have realised I cannot do it while working 5 days a week full time. So next week the real cul starts to get underway.
What a shame that we have all held on to our "TREASURES" only to have the great dilemma of having to just get rid of them...Maybe the minimalists like my daughter have the right idea.

A little bit at a time does it. Don't work yourself to exhaustion , it makes it more daunting next day!
We moved recently so we didn't have to cull as much, but even so, we remember the hurt when nobody wanted our lovely furniture (to us), and it didn't get a single bid at the auction. Goes to show, we waste a lot of space keeping treasures thinking we'll hand them down to the next generation.

We had a garage sale before we put the house on market, very successful, and did not miss any thing we sold. After we had an unconditional contract on the house, we had the realestate agent organise an "estate auction". he guaranteed everything would go. We hung on to our trailer, just in case we still had to take anything to the dump/vinnies. Everything was sold, $20,000 into our slush fund, re agent got $1000 Everyone happy.
