We have a 2006 Jayco. Have replaced the antenna with a Wineguard Freevision HV antenna and new Sphere 22.5" tv. Worked perfect at Halls Gap and Ballarat(home base) but last week at Echuca/Moama, we could't get ABC or SBS.(which we mostly watch). Booster was on, re tuned and tried antenna in various positions. The neighbours had no problems.
Any suggestions? Are there different quality antenna boosters?

I had problems as well two years ago so bit the bullet and got a TV antenna you would use at home with the same booster, a grey box that normally sits up with the antenna but set it up inside. I fitted screw on connections and had the coax coming straight to the booster inside with no connections in between, keeping any joins to a minimum. Works a treet now.
I also have a App on my phone called "Antenna Mate" that finds the best signal for you. Never failed. Storage of the antenna is a slight problem as it doesn't fold but I get around it.
Sometimes I look back at the Avan when set up and it looks like the antenna is bigger than the Avan.

If you see an antenna installer he can put a meter on the wall socket and tell you whether there is a cabling or amplifier problem (or hopefully not a TV problem). That might be less painless than trying to solve the problem by trial and error. Be aware that if you are quite close to the transmitter, the amplifier can give you too much signal, which is just as bad as not enough. It is good if the amplifier can be bypassed in this case. This problem is most likely to occur when you are camping in towns. If the locals all have pretty basic antennae (or even no outdoor antenna), there is a good chance you are over-amplifying.
In answer to your other question, yes, there are better amplifiers. Kingray (from GME) and some others make high gain amplifiers that are weatherproof and can be mounted close to the antenna where they will do the most good. Some of these have a switched or variable gain control so you can optimise it to match the incoming signal.

Have come across situations/locations with our Wingard HV that there is a difference in signal between one cog and the next, ie need fine TV aerial pointing, viewable TV on one cog setting and pixelating on the adjacent.

.. I had a similar problem .. and found out that the "cigarette lighter type" connector was dropping out the contact when it warmed up ..
replaced the connector with a better locking-in type .. not a problem since ..

Hi. There are 2 types of signal being used at the moment. If your antenna doesn't pick up both vertical and horizontal that could be the cause. We had that problem and resolved it by buying a duel receiver antenna.

Do you have LED lights in the van? Are they turned on when you are having difficulties?
My LED's are ok except the 2 strip lights over the kitchen and ensuite sinks. If I turn either of those on I can forget tv.
