We're back home in Victoria, earlier than planned. My husband was bitten by a spider and spent time in Mackay hospital. He's had several courses of anti-biotics since then and he's still feeling unwell. Nasty little things, these spiders! Thanks to all who wrote to us during our short time away. Our coaster is now for sale and we hope to have a few days away here and there once things improve. Happy travels everyone.

Hi Geoff and Jennifer
Hope you are on the mend. The white-tail spider can have a bad effect on some people and no effect on others.
It is very interesting. It seems to depend on ones immune system.
Bad luck about your travels

Best wishes on recovery.
That is one ugly spider. Looks like a ****roach with eight legs. At least the Black Widow is a fairly attractive spider. We have lots of Tarantulas in New Mexico, quite large but harmless and folks keep them as pets. They can be habituated to handling but can bite if greatly annoyed but not poisonous.
About 90% of snake bite "victims" in US are drunk young men who do stupid things. It is said that the last words said by many a young Redneck is "hold my beer Bubbah and watch this!" I would suppose you have similar statistics and expressions.

This forum has a heck of a filter. I used the common name for the cucaracha (insects of the order Blattodea, sometimes also called Blattaria, of which about 30 species out of 4,600[1] total are associated with human habitats. About four species are well known as pests Wikipdia
And it took the first four letters and printed "****roach" Just want folks to know I did nothing untoward nor salacious.

Here is the American ****roach. I would think you use the same name for these critters. Let us see if it bowlderizes the name of the attached filer photo
