Hi all. We have a 2012 winnebago esperance with dometic air conditioner.
Since day 1 we had a very noisy fan and the unit itself was causing vibrations. We had it checked out by dometic agents and were told that that is how they are.
2 years down the track and the air conditioner blew itself up. We were informed that the whole unit needed replacing. The cost including installation $2890.00. I picked the Bago up yesterday and tested the new air conditioner and it is very quiet and no vibration.
It warms up very quickly and cools down to 2 degrees at the outlet. Our original 1 did neither of these things.
the moral to the story, stick to your guns and demand it fixed or replaced.
i hear that all rv air conditioners have inherent problems. Do not let them fob you off. I hope this helps a few of you.

Hi, I installed a split system in my van a number of years by myself for less than $500. Was told by all the experts that they are not designed for vans blah blah and would have problems ect etc. Well 5 years later still going strong and the van has been on dirt roads.
The unit is very effective and so quiet that my neighbor recently pulled out his factory unit and replaced it with a split system. Moral of the story is have a go and don't be misled by money hungry caravan experts. Have a safe trip! RR

I have a split system in my bus.
Best thing I ever installed. Cost about$900 installed.
I can run it from my batteries and solar and still charge my batteries and it is almost silent.
Have had people standing at the rear of the bus when it was running and they did not realise that it was running.
Would never have a RV aircon if I did another rebuild (hope this one last em out though).

We have a Fujitsu split on the back of our van, and our experience is like Brian's, it is almost silent, and with inverter technology it runs very little current. Unit cost less than $500 (I bought it in Winter), and the installation was not complex or expensive.

$500 for thr Fujitsi - crumbs, definitely will look into this further. Did google US sites on this and they all had "contact local installer"

Agree with your initial post. The Dometic Air conditioning units are big and bulky, but do not perform as stated. I have a Bago too - similar problems to you. Need to get it checked out before our next trip.

To clarify the price on the 2.5Kw reverse cycle Fujitsu, the sticker price was $698, but I bought mine during Fujitsu's annual winter promotion where they give you cash back in the form of a pre paid visa card, when I bought I got $200 back.
Net price $498.

Hi guys, Please excuse my apparent ignorance but are you telling me that you have installed an air con system in your RVs that has been designed to run in a house or factory situation? Can they be run on 12v? If so what has to be done to achieve this? I'm upgrading an old Compass and an air con system running on 12v is proving to be something of a problem to get.

Hi Friar , I think that they are 240v units running through an inverter , although you may be able to get a 12v compressor fitted.

Perhaps a little off the subject.
But we have a dometic reverse cycle roof mounted A/C. Probably installed with van back in 2008.
The noise from it is virtually unbearable.
So much so, we have installed a diesel heater, but the summer months are still an issue.
Does anyone have any clues or ideas as to how to reduce the noise.??
Would like some advice is at all possible.

Installed a Fujitsu 2.6 KW in our van over 8 years ago, cost including installation was $1200 and it's still going strong, extremely quiet and efficient.

I have a Dometic B57915 Brisk II Air Conditioner which is 13,500 BTU in my RV travel trailer. It has a high performance design for increased airflow, easy installation, and maintenance. It is portable and still working perfectly. I got a great help from coolingmyrv.com, this site. If you want you can check this site.
