that would be interesting...
I was trying to get a caravan car port out of QLD recently but the freight was over $800
so I rang a local freight company and asked them if they needed a backload...
it turned out that they go to QLD at least once a month taking a full load up and then look for a load back as not to waste the trip..
it cost me $440 for the backload... Half Price..
I would imagine freight ships would be the same... take a load one way and looking for a load the other way.. so give cheap rates.. very interesting..

I'll be doing the same. I live in Tassie and always complaining to myself about the high cost on the Spirit. I know some of the cargo ships will take caravans and MHS, and I heard of one that takes about 7 passengers in cabins. Yeah, gotta check it out before my next trip to the big island, probably around March 2015.

That is a good deal. Last time I checked (mid 2012), for a 4wd with 23' caravan, $2000 each way.

Found this on a Free camping site on Facebook. What do you guys think
" Best time of the year is early, January and February, try get on a freight boat instead of the ferry, it saved us $1200"
