I am heading to Brisbane today after nearly 12 months on the road, to spend time with my son and his partner, all good, however it is going to be different than what I originally thought.
I have been offered a house sit until the middle of October, I said yes, and it is certainly going to be different being stationery for 6 weeks, and looking after a house and pets again. I am looking forward to it, as something different, and also will give me a sense of something that I have decided over the past 12 months that I never want to do again. I will be very spoilt in the house that I will be looking after, it is in a very swanky area and a very nice home complete with pool and water views. How spoilt am I?
It has come at a great time because I had no idea where I wanted to go after spending time with my son, so now I have until the middle of October to decide. It will also give me more than enough time to have Miss Daisy set up to tow a little car. Yes the decision has been made, so that will happen while I am in this area. Have seen the towing system that I want and it is easy to manage, and my son has a car in mind that he thinks will suit my needs. So once I head off again, I will be on a different journey again, with a little car to explore even further afield, that alone towing something. Lessons will be required before I head off again.
So will miss the road in front of me for awhile, but will be enjoying the new surroundings that have been offered to me.
Having said all that, if there are any GN's in the Brisbane area who would like to meet up for a coffee, PM me and it will be a pleasure to make a time to meet. I will be in the Scarborough area from 12th of September.

Hi Sharon,
you will hear from me later, my plans now include the Gold Coast so I will PM you late September.
Sounds good about the towing a car but I must admit to second thoughts about it myself, since I decided to save up and change the engine and buy the necessaries I have considered how I would go in many circumstances and found that I would be inconvenienced more than the convenience of having a runaround.
CYA in Scarborough later,
John

What sort of engine have you decided on? diesel or petrol, John?

Now that the bus is running sweetly there is no rush but the almighty $$$ will eventually decide.
I am leaning towards a V6 Commodore I can buy the whole car very reasonably not worrying about body work or roadworthy certificates and get almost everything needed in one cost. My budget is $5000 all up so it is unlikely that I can get a diesel turbo fitted for that.

I am sure you will cope very well Shekon - you may not be able to cope with city life - that is something different for sure!! I did send you an email with a picture of what I thought you should get instead of a car so I will post it here and see what the others think!!!
Plenty ofpwer, and ease of getting parts, but will use a lot of fuel.Look forward to see how you go.Sorry for hijacking the post. Bill

Sharon,
you should find that towing a little car gives you so much more versatility. It makes a big difference to be able to prop in a place, set up the camp, then explore out from there by car. We did one short trip in the bus, then decided we couldn't do without a run-around.
We towed a caravan for years, and I can tell you that towing the little car is totally different. We really just do not notice the car is there - keep checking the rear view camera to make sure! The only thing is that you can't reverse with the car on, so have to plan some things accordingly.

Sharon you're leading a charmed life... travelling around at your leisure, meeting wonderful peeps, seeing nice places, and now looking after a posh house for a while! Good luck to you (although it seems you don't need it).

No problem Bill. All good.
Gary, I give thanks every day for the wonderful life I am leading. In fact if you were sitting behind me when driving MD, or when I am just watching the world go by, you would hear me giving thanks quite a lot. I am truly blessed.
Nelly, I think a bike would be just great. I can just see me heading up the highway at 80 or 90 on one of those.
Wendy I was lucky enough to have a MH pull in next to me over the weekend with the exact towing hitch I wanted, so the gentleman showed me how it all worked and let me have a go to make sure I could handle it. Easy peasey. Then his wife gave me a great tip, golly I laughed. She said, "Now Sharon, one thing you do not do is leave the car in gear and the handbrake on. It stuffs the engine and you have to have it replaced." We had a good laugh, this is something she did on their second trip out with the car, so good advice. They were lucky that the car was still under warranty, so had all bits replaced as such. So all good advice. They then said the same thing Wendy, they do not even notice the car behind them.
I am looking forward to doing some extra exploring. How life changes as one goes further down the road of life.

Enjoy the house sitting Sharon. Great for you and great for the house owner too as they get someone reliable to keep an eye on things. I have one coming up in November.

Sharon, yep you do have to have a system to remind you about the car! In neutral, handbrake off - and with our set up, ignition key on accessories, so that the brake and indicator lights work in synch with those of the bus. When you get the hitch bits fitted, make sure wiring and connections are done by a good auto electrician.......don't know about your rig, but our bus vehicle electricals are 24v and car is 12v, so wiring between the two has to be done with that in mind.

Hi Braggabb, No have not done Tassie yet. that is on the list, but when who knows. I believe there is a Winnebago with Miss Daisy written across the front of it, criss crossing the countryside also.

Yes Sharon,
There is plenty of cleaning in this large house in Scarborough,
Sharon will be taking over the house sitting from me but of course I will be backwards and forwards as we haven't seen each other for a while and we have heaps of catching up to do.Will warn the neighbours.
Disappointed they didn't leave the keys to their boat, maybe we can have a party on it and pretend we are out in the ocean and not on the canal.
If it gets to much Sharon you head up to Wamuran where I am camping and I will relieve you -pass out for a night or too.
The pool is cold so bring your wet suit or no suit at all.
I am having a wonderful catch up with old friends and have to say, haven't been home 1 day.
Rod is working on a property for 6 weeks and then its off again. Where too, flick that coin.
Although we are working in Qld at the moment, we are still camping, well Rod is for the time being and it still feels like a big holiday.
