Well well well... yesterday I was diagnosed with moderate Sleep Apnoea. Next Tuesday I have another sleep study overnight to get me organised with CPAP machine mask and pressures.
The specialist feels sure that I will receive at least 50% improvement to my exhaustion that I a, left with after my accident 6 years ago and the heart attack this time last year. Any improvement will give me a better lifestyle..
So need info on you people who use the CPAP machines as to what voltage and current draw please?

Hi Paul, I use a CPAP machine in my van 12volt and 6.7amps It has the humidifier and heated tube.
I am diagnosed with severe apnoea and have a pressure of 12 something....and I use a nose plug to breath through.
The best thing I have ever had as now I get uninterrupted sleep and more oxygen to my lungs, cause now I don't stop breathing every minute or so during the night. If you want more info as to the machine give me a PM if ya want Cheers Sarg.

To pacify him I said I'd do the sleep test but I wont have the CPAP machine. This morning the Doctor called and booked me in for the test next Monday night (Sep 01). The CSIRO are developing a mouth piece similar to a dental plate. Cost is expected to be $1,500.00 to $3,000.00. Sorry guys, my name is Willy, not silly !!! But I do have photographs of the dental plate

For me any improvement with be worth it. I am open to anything that can give me a more enjoyable lifestyle. I have no top teeth so the splint arrangement is not suitable. The apparatus has really changed since our son was using one over 10 years ago. His Apnoea improved, after he had lapband surgery and he lost 40kg, as did his type 2 Diabetes.

Hi Paul,I have OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnoea)and the pressure setting is set at 12,in the motor home I use a Resmed S8 unit with a humidifier when connected to 240v. When free camping I use a dc-dc converter supplied by resmed) to run the unit,but the humidifier does not operate when using the converter. I have not worked out the current draw,but I have not had any problems with battery capacity.I would suggest a phone call to the technical dept of a supplier to get the latest info on the requirements for CPAP machines Common machines used are Resmed and Fisher Paykel .I was diagnosed seven years ago with severe OSA after collapsing with Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure, the CPAP machine made a huge difference to me and I look forward each night to using the machine because I know I will get a good nights sleep . wife has had a CPAP machine for 2 years now. Run it off an inverter. I worked out it used more power on 12v as it has a gadget that brings it down to 12v from what ever your battery puts out, usually 12.6 - 12.8. The CPAP does not like more than 12v.
With the Resmed machine we use about 45 amp hr each night, with heated tube. The heated tube uses more than half of that power so go back to normal tube if not too cold at night.

No idea what they drain but I use the Resmed S8.
The best example I can give is for a long time I used it without the humidifier in a camper trailer with a 40watt Solar panel and 110 AH battery.
camper up for a couple of weeks without issue (only used LED lights and a gas fridge). I used it on a small 300w inverter.
Life is a bit easier these days with 780 W solar and 680 AH and can use with the humidifier on a 3kva inverter with no issues.

I should have added that in Victoria (not sure about other states) Sleep Apnoea is one of those medical issues that you must notify Vic Roads about and your licence becomes conditional on regular medical reports.
I have to get a form done every three years on a car/light ridged licence
I did hold a MR licence but that required annual specialists reviews (both this issue and Diabetes) so had my licence downgraded.

I used to have bad sleep apnoea but lost 15Kg and it went away.
Over winter I put on a few Kgs and it's occasionally coming back....

Paul, one of the reason I built such a Large system for my bus is so That I can comfortable run My Cpap Machine...
and all the other goodies..
Have you managed to get your self into on of the schemes that gives you a CPAP machine for just the cost of the Mask...?
- Some machines can cost you $1000.00+
Before you get to far into the system see what you can do....

I too run a CPAP, I have a Resmed S9. While I have the humidifier and heated tubes, I rarely use them and don't take them with me when we go away in the van. Without the humidifier, it only uses some 3 amps, so will easily run all night from our two house batteries. I bought the 12 volt adapter - the unit is actually 24 volt, although it would run off an inverter if you prefer.
I initially resisted using the machine, but I now can't (won't) sleep without it. The change to your energy levels and your wellbeing in general is incredible! It might take a few weeks to get used to wearing a mask, but when you do, you won't even notice it. The wife calls me 'the elephant man'... not sure if that's a compliment or not???
I use a small nasal mask, but your specialist will go through all the options with you.

I'm not sure where your based But ask your doctor if there is a Local community Program and see if you can get on to it.. If your not working or retired it should be available for you..
I was lucky as I fall into the extreme range and it's for my health that I use 1.

I run the mrs one on our 300 watt inverter.. she doesn't use the humidifier, finds she doesn't need it..
we bought ours from the US for under half price delivered.. but you have to send them a copy of your medical report that says you have sleep apnoea...
our first machine turned up with a broken LCD screen on it... but they sent us out another one... luckily.. it may pay to have postal insurance..

Just arrived home from overnight at local Hospital. Sleep Test. Thiswas my second in about 5 years. Nurse told me this morning I'm a bad case but my Doctor will give me the diagnosis. I'm not getting another CPAP macine unless it's absoluteley necessary. As I mentioned in my earlier post in this thread, I'll be in the Philippines in 2 weeks, so will see what the Dentist there says about a mouth piece...

I have had the Resmed s9 for about 7 months now and still have issues regarding leaking from the nose apparatus from time to time. I sleep on my sides mostly.
My breathing went from stopping 83 times in an hour period (without) to varying now from 5 to .3.
Originally purchased at my wife's insistence for snoring. $2,200.
I have not used without 240v but I am going to try without the humidifier.
I have been advised but have not checked that you can get a discount $s from Centrelink and your power company.
I definitely feel the benefit through the day.

Well it sure was an exciting 24 hours. Me on one floor for sleep study, and daughter on the above floor eventually having a Cesar. Her waters broke in bed yesterday morning at 2.00 am. They went to hospital and things went too slowly so they gave her a drip to induce but really did not work and by evening the bub was in a slightly difficult position so they opted for Cesarean and at 10.40 pm our grand daughter entered this world. I might be a little pleased and proud, eh....
