Great article Beth, looks like "Gympie Gets It" in terms of being RV friendly, more power to them.

Glad to see Gympie is thinking outside the square. Where they are thinking about is a top spot. Gympie has a lot to offer. Heritage museum, good restaurants. Love the Asian restaurant on the left just past where the pineapple used to be on the main highway. pubs and rsl have great meals. beautiful memorial park and great spot for a picnic and kids to play on beautiful green grass. See the surrounds - Tin Can Bay and dolphin feeding, drive to the top of tablelands road, cooran for a magnificent view and a picnic at the top. Pomona has old fashioned picture theatre (not sure what day they have it). - lots of day trips. can go on and on.

Last time we were at Gympie we stayed in the town caravan park, the fumes from the coffee factory at night were a bit overwhelming they were working all night when we were there.
Had a meal with my cousin and his wife (they live at Lower Wonga) at that Chinese Restaurant and like you said the do a great meal.

As many of you know, I go through there to my sister at Tin Can Bay regularly, so I don't need for a place to pull up.
Sadly the Mary Valley Rattler..ie: heritage railway.. isn't operating due to lack of funds, but I'm told they have hopes of opening again in the near future.
There's also a free camp just south of Gympie and another at Kybong near the Matilda Roadhouse.
...may be turned into a caravan/RV park.

Also on the Old Noosa Road, Kybong is http://www.cobb-and-co-nine-mile-camping-grounds.com/ A bunch of we GN stayed here a couple of years ago. Lovely quiet spot and great hosts.
Yes, there's certainly a lot to see and do in the general area.
