I saw a new Hi Ace Diesel today and was talking to the driver (council vehicle) he said the new one he was driving was a five cylinder manual with a Volvo motor and had a lot more grunt than the previous 4 cylinder petrol Hi Ace work vehicle and much better fuel consumption.
I was surprised it had a Volvo motor in it.

I don't think he was pulling my chain Bill, he seemed to believe what he was telling me, maybe someone told him it was. I did think him saying it was a 5 cylinder a bit strange, maybe I was his entertainment for the day
He was a council reticulation service bloke AK working on the sprinklers, it was a council vehicle not his.
I can't find anything that says it has a Volvo engine, would they admit it if it did? Here are a couple of links;
Interesting is while I was trying to find a link to the info, I came across this link as to what motor company owns what brands, I was surprised to see that Volvo was owned by the Chinese (Geely), see;

Ummmmmm.................Now I have to eat a bit of humble pie, my Mrs who was in the passenger seat when I was talking to the Council bloke said he was talking about a Volvo, not the new Hi Ace, I obviously didn't hear him properly (probably due to not having my hearing aids in), so assume it was something like this;

They generate more power and torque than four-cylinder engines, while maintaining better fuel economy and "pep" than six-cylinder engines. Five-cylinder turbos have been used on more than one occasion in sport and racing applications for their balance of performance qualities. The Volvo S60 R has a 2.5 litre turbocharged inline-fivecylinder engine which is capable of generating 300 brake horsepower (224 kW) and 295 lbf·ft (400 N·m) of torque across a large amount of its rpm ranges. The new Ford Focus RS performance car uses the same Volvo 5-cylinder engine, developed (by Ford) to very similar power levels, and is one of the most powerful FWD production cars ever created.
