I have spent yesterday look for a towing rig, my preference is leaning towards either the BT50/Ranger or a Triton 2010/11
The Bt50/Ranger in a freestyle cab 3.0ltr TDI as either a 2.5 or 3t towing capacity, where the Triton in a similar configuration is only 2.25t.
Finding one is not the problem but the seams to be a massive difference in price in WA compared to the east coast.
So the question is what is you tow rig and what you opinion of the following:-
2010/11 BT50/Ranger 3.0ltr freestyle RWD or 4WD
2010/11 Triton 2.5ltr TDI twin cab 4WD (towing cap 2.5t)
Plan to tow a van up to 22'
thanks for any feedback

The length of the caravan is irrelevant in deciding what to tow it with - its the weight of the laden weight and ball that's important. The combined mass of the tug and the caravan is also important. For example, I have a 2013 BT 50 that has a towing capacity of 3.5 tonne but a combined vehicle mass of 6.0 tonne. As the tug 's weight is 2.2 tonne that leaves 3.8 tonne for the caravan and any other stuff I want to throw into it and the back of the ute including me and her. Payload drops very fast when all factors are considered. You really need to think about the weights involved before deciding anything - either select a tug and then buy a van to suit or vice versa but know what you're getting into before shelling out your cash.

I have only just within the last six weeks purchased a new Colorado, 6 speed auto crew cab (Twin). I had a canopy fitted for storage. I have no regrets at all. I have said recently, it is the best car I have eaver had.
I must say that the Isuzu Dmax had equal poll on the start line. I was just a little more comprtable in the Collie.
I researched and test drove all the twin cab utes. Colorado won on the day.
edit.....small problem but sorted.

AK, I have been told the cost of servicing is prohibitive, especially the Amerock.
Was told that by a good friend that owned one and sold it after 2 years approx 60,000 km.

Hi all
We have a 2013 Jayco Starcraft 20-62-2 which has an ATM of 2500KGs, this is towed with a 2012 Ford Ranger XL 2.2L Diesel, Combined mass 6000KGs, can drag a max of 3350KGs.
I was very surprised when the combination returned 13.9Ls per 100KMs on a recent trip (on the trip computer). I guess the question is how long will that little 2.2 4 cylinder donk drag this beast around? We looked at the XLT but the budget said no.
This is a choice we made based on dislike for some car makers and budget. So far, touch wood we have made the perfect choice.
Safe travels.

We have a 09 VJD78 troopy love the V8 oiler it is the GLX modal 5 seater done 200,000ks with a water pump and a weapy frount gearbox seal the only problems we have had and both fixed under warranty, I chipped it and put a 3" ss system on it we are putting 175kw on the road at the rear wheels, I still get good fuel and we are going to upgrade to a twincab V8 ute maybe around xmas time.

Funny....I went into look at the collie....got sent to see the imax from a friend...preferred the Ranger and went home in a Cruiser...
Of the utes I felt that the Ranger is a class above the rest.......My concern came from reports that twin-cabs are showing signs of sinking in the middle after towing weights.
