I checked your profile Isuzuswag, and your e-mail address is shown. Might be better to delete that. People can still send you a private message on the forum site.

Yep, that will be the cause I reckon. The GN site goes world wide and anyone can read but I think you need to be a member to access profiles. Having said that, a clever person would get in I'm sure.

Also not a good idea to have birthdate displayed in your profile either.

-- Edited by isuzuswag on Saturday 2nd of August 2014 07:03:01 PM
When you click on the link in your e-mail, a link to youtube comes up. The website for YouTube is a sham. When you click on the link you get an URL www.236youtube...etc Correct youtube URL is www.youtube.com/ after the slash you will get the link to the page. Also when the sham youtube site comes up, it tells me there is an Adobe Flash Player error, to download an updated version. Well I already have the updated version.
I don't think anyone on the GN Forum is responsible for the e-mail. It's just one of trillions that are sent out daily by Spammers and hackers to random e-mail addresses worldwide. Just delete it and don't click on any links, especially the Adobe upgrade if you use Adobe Flash Player or you might find your Bank account empty after the next time you log onto your Bank...

Oftem malware is downloaded onto those computers that do not have good security software running
This can sometimes manifest itself in the form of phantom emails unbeknown to the account holder
You need to run a good security pack like Microsoft Security Essentials that is compatable with Microsoft operating systems
There are others out there as well but check them out for two way firewall etc

Hi isuzuswag, I'm sorry to hear that you are getting spam emails. As other members have mentioned, it is best not to publically reveal your email address on this forum as anyone on the net could view your email address and either send you unwanted emails or put you on a list. Although I’m not sure whether that is why you have received these spam emails, I have now modified your profile to hide your email address from public view. Also, just to set everyone’s mind at rest, we have a strict policy whereby we will never sell your email address to a third party or provide it to anyone who asks without your direct permission.

Good to know Cindy, I have never had any personal problems from the forum although I only pass on my email address to other members by pm that I know over time, however in most cases I use the pm system which is more convenient.

It may have been more to do with your email being on someone else's contacts list. I had a similar link come up when I opened an email from a friend asking me to sign up to facebook. When I also got it on another email address I figured it was her account that had been hacked and deleted the emails.

it really annoys me when so called friends send a request for me to join something, instead of asking me first they just go ahead and put my email info on a site for the site to send me a request and I find out who has put my email online to these so called sites FB & Twitter are two of the worst I really give them a piece of my mind.

I totally agree. I joined up with Facebook when it first started, but I've never made an entry and don't intend to. Maybe I should try and bale out or let it sit. A lot of requests you are talking about come from good friends or relatives, and I don't like to offend anyone. So I've drafted a standard response which I e-mail out.
Hi,
I often receive invitations to join various Social networks. . However Ive made it a policy not to join any social online sites, e.g. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or any others. I believe that people put too much of their personal information online, and thats not for me !! This can result in identity fraud amongst other risks.
I also make a point of replying to these invitations, explaining my position, because they come from good friends and relatives, and I dont want to offend anyone by not accepting.
I do actually have a Facebook account because I joined up when it first started, just to see what it was all about. However Ive never made any entries or have I made any Friends. This is the reason you might see me as aFacebook member.
Hope all is well with you.
Kind Regards,

Just a note for anyone that wants to bale out and can't find how to unsubscribe, sign on and go to your Profile, then Settings and at the bottom of the page is an unsubscribe link.
They will ask you to confirm it first and then they will send you a final email letting you know you have unsubscribed. Similar procedure for Twitter.

I think that is because Facebook says see if your friends are on Facebook, click here to check your contact list or words to that effect, then that is why your friends end up getting them, Facebook contacts them unknown to the person on facebook thinking it is only checking who is or is not on Facebook. If on Facebook you will also get emails from Facebook saying "Do you know so and so" etc.
That is why I de-registered from there, but I never added my contact list for them to send stuff to others. I believe you can adjust your settings but too much stuffing around for me....

This is a bit of info passed onto me from someone about this topic;
There are bogus websites for every major website in the world.
This includes banks, ebay google and millions of other organisations names where the url may state the company name in the url but with other characters as well.
This has been happening since the internet began. Always check every website you go to that it clearly states the exact url if you type in an organisation etc into google search.
There are many fraud sites. As I said, this goes for all major organisation names not just youtube.
(I was sent an example of a google search on a major bank showing a number of false website addresses very close to the real one).

FB and twitter need to be given an email address they cannot get mine just by a member looking for who is online.
I agree about the bogus web sites, the best way to get to a web site you want is to physically type into the address bar the full address of the site you want do not really on fav pages and links, never click on links.

It is not for who is online, but who is on Facebook/Twitter, they ask to copy your addy book.
If you had been on either you would know what I mean, it is not giving out an individual email address. Any invitation to join Facebook/Twitter is automatically sent to all those shown in your address book if you grant this permission.
However you (the member of FB/Twit) get emails asking you if you know so and so.
Perhaps a user of these sites can clarify how it works, I am not a member of either anymore, but did try them.
