Ok, spent all day yesterday scrubbing and cleaning inside of MH, vacuumed behind the fridge and around the hot water service, wiped all inside, and today I was greeted by some tiny ants
O M G !!!!! My question is HELP;
seriously is it ok to spray around the inside of MH, with some sort of Baygon or alternative surface spray? How healthy would it be? Considering the confined space.,?
oh yes i would leave the windows open . Fran

We use AntRid. Small blog on a lid in obscure corners around the van, the ants come and take it back to their nests where they spread it and they die there.
We use it all the time, entirely suitable for indoors.
BTW, if you spray the ants or the surface where they are crawling, you will only kill those ones, you need to attack the nest, which is usually situated somewhere out of site.

I've also used it in my vans DM, best stuff I reckon.
I knew someone with a Coaster and ants had nested between metal panels that could not be got at, the Ant Rid did the job!

buy some antrid from coles or woollies.
get some gladwrap and put it in the sink. sqirt antrid on the gladwrap. Then I leave them alone for a few days. no more problems.
make sure there is no foodstuffs for them to eat as they need only antrid.
Hope you are not living full time in the motorhome, if so, I am not sure.
also, sprinkle powder around. they will not walk over powder. baby, talcum

We spray Crawly Cruncher on the wheeles of our Motor home , no bugs ,no ants, stay excited Billeeeeeee
We were unfortunate to pick up ants last year in Vic, we tried Ant rid and they wouldn't touch it. Went to a pest control place and they said there are two types of basic ant, a sweet toothed variety that do eat Ant rid, but a second variety that go for non sweet things.
We had the latter and it was a nightmare to get rid of them, we had to put special baits down and it took around 5 weeks to get on top of them. Then surface sprayed the whole van inside.
Was told it is far easier to stop them coming in the first place than to control when infested.
I am now paranoid over ants and spray all around us when camped with David Grays Ant and termite killer at the first sign of an ant.

Thanks all, will give antrid a try, when i say ants, they are little ones and not many, i think i must of disturbed a nest when i cleaned.

When near Mackay recently, we were continually fighting the battle against tiny ants. As has been mentioned, Antrid was useless. Spray was the only way we could control them. It took a week or more of constantly attacking visible ants but we got there in the end. Obviously not all ants are susceptible to the same treatments.
Keep trying different things until you get results.

Slightly off topic, but had a friend who had a flea problem in a caravan and set off 2 flea bombs to take care of them.
The first was no problem, but he had neglected to turn off the gas fridge and the second caused an explosion.
He was burned and the caravan was effectively destroyed.
Be warned.

We had them at Normanton and Croydon ..... as luck would have it camped next to us was a car with a logo on it .... xxx Pest Extermination! He said one of the easiest and the cheapest non toxic treatment is talcum powder (he was using it) Also, if you are on a concrete slab protected from weather, draw a chalk line around all contacts with the pad - like powder, ants will not cross it. We have had them in the relay system of the car and also the windscreen water reservoir ..... RACQ said ants in the car engines very common call out up in the northern areas - we had to replace one of the relays and then he said just hit it now and again with surface spray! Have had no problems since in the van/car since except when we had the paratrooper ants at a caravan park at Airlie Beach - they just set up housekeeping under one of the bag bed awnings but they did not come inside as we have powder scattered along the rim between the base and the canvas of the camper. Found them as we were packing up to leave, so just killed them and wiped over the area where they were! If you want to camp with ants - camp under trees or in contact with them.

Just be aware talc may not deter all ants. We were parked at 80mile beach WA and the chap next door liberally sprinkled it all around to try and stop the ants, I sat one afternoon watching a trail march straight over his talc defences as though it wasn't there !
The best deterrent is some type of surface spray, most now are pyrethum based so are safe and non toxic to humans and animals.
As I mentioned earlier we now use David Gray's spray, it is 100% pyrethum based and is very effective and cheap as it comes in large bottle to be diluted down, but as with most modern safe sprays is soon broken down so for longer term protection needs to be re applied after a few weeks.
I also use Mortein professional surface spray for under the van itself and around the legs or anything that touches the ground.
Another tip is put a ring of Vaselene on hoses and cables as that is another access point to the van exploited by the little critters.
I know it sounds like we go over the top, but when you have ants everywhere inside the van, and I mean everywhere, you do become a little paranoid once rid of them.

Ant sand works. Sprinkle it outside where the ant nests are or on their trails... no more ants after a day.
But if they are nesting inside your van I'm not sure if would be safe to use. Its toxic to pets, like snail-bait, so take care.

We have been sprayingaround wheelsbut it washes away every time it rains. Realised we had a nest in the motorhome so bought some Talon gel in a syringe. Sqeezed out a 1 cmstrip onto area the ants were tracking. They surrounded it, must taste good, and nextday they were all gone. Still clear a month later. It apparently destroys the nest and queenas they take it back. Hope this is of use,.

Watch out the little buggers don't get in the engine. They got into relays up in Darwin last year and we weren't going anywhere. Hubby had to carefully take the relays apart, take a photo of how they went back together, clean them out and we were on our way. But what a Pain in the A! Antrid is now with us constantly
