Margyr, No way would I pay anything, let alone $35 per night to stay at Bear Gully. I went there, drove in and got the dirtiest looks and a couple of, well, not nice gestures from a very rough looking mob, so turned around and went back to Walkerville Foreshore Camping Area, much better. I have been back many times and enjoyed very much and under $30.
I might say as well even that a couple of times while at Walkerville went back to Bear Gully to look but was greeted with similar looks so never again.

Just another site on the crossed off list. There is possibly another agenda here. If enough people stop using Vic.National Parks due to the steep rises in fees, the Government will say that they will allow private enterprise to tart them up and run them. The recent approval for a major private development down at Portsea in the National Park is a forerunner of what to expect.
As soon as the fee increases were announced, we decided that we would boycott all those that charged a fee. They are after all our parks. We have also kept an eye out on the numbers using the parks. Almost without exception, they have been totally deserted and I hope they stay that way until the absurd fees are reduced. Don't hold your breath.

Thank you for the link John. $34 per night! Ridiculous... Another campsite to avoid.

Hi,
Bear Gully has been on my list of places to visit, however it is not dog friendly....at $34 it has sealed its fate.
I frequently camp at Reeves Beach, which is well sheltered, yet close enough to hear the ocean. Asleep in no time.
Will be there for a week from 16th.....
Totally agree with you Fastcoach.
Cheers George

Gday...
The wise Victorian Govt has either applied, or increased, fees to all camping in Victorian National Parks from 01 July 2014.
I found this through Mr Google -
