Gday I meant to mention in my previous rantings that this last fortnight on our 3000k journey I fixed one of those cameras to the w/screen.Its lasts 2 hrs then re boots has a 140 deg sweep and is brilliant in the dark too.No particular reason ,but for 100$ why not ? Mind you Between Cunnamulla and C/Ville it would have picked @ 150 dead roos !.It is a permanant fixture and will live on the screen till one of us carks it !

Westy - my brother has one and did something to it so that it records to his laptop whilst driving....not sure but something to do with where it's memory is.
He then plays with it at night and saves interesting snips - deletes the rest.

Just wondering, if something happens as it reboots that you want do you loose it or do you have the option to keep recover it.?

Have to watch what type you have and the loop settings. Last week driving from Boulia I thought I had a great film of an eagle taking off right in front of us. Bloody camera was looping and missed it

Ours gets about 4 hours of HD video from a 32GB micro SD card, so after about that much driving I swap cards and transfer to a laptop at the end of the day. On our way up north a few weeks back we were right in the middle of a police chase where a bloke had hijacked a car just south of Tamworth and had 7 police cars behind him. Because they had spiked his tyres, it took ages for them to catch up to us, and I had to pull over. He came past with sparks flying from his wheel rims followed by the police vehicles with lights flashing and sirens blaring. We caught up to them pretty quickly when we got back on the road (they were only doing around 80kph), so had a front row seat. Finally the culprit speared off into the ditch beside the road and the cops all jumped out with guns drawn (at that point I was wishing I was a bit further back). They smashed in his drivers side window with their gun butts, hauled him out and cuffed him, all within about 20 meters of us. We got it all on the dash cam... Had I have thought about it, I would have pulled into Tamworth and got onto the news mob to see if they wanted the footage, could have been a nice little earner. Was just like watching COPS on TV.. lol.. a bit of excitement for the trip.

We have one as we had a couple of close calls from dickheads sharing the road. Lo and behold, within a week of installing the camera, someone reversed into us. As the driver got out to have a look at the damage, there was a murmur about us being at fault as it was a 'rear end' collision. When I pointed out the dashcam and that all had been recorded, his attitude changed, was very apologetic and offered to pay for damages.

Can they be plugged into your ciggy lighter or do they need separate wiring?
