It is now 9 in the morning, and the ice is still on the ground, the water is frozen, and just starting to flow slowly through the tap, the ice on the awning and skylight is starting to melt, while there is clear blue sky and the sun trying its hardest to add more warmth to the land.
I love it, yes it is cold, but how beautiful it was to look out onto the white ground and then jump back into bed to continue my love affair with flannette, and having a really good excuse for not getting out of it for sometime. Can't have a shower without hot water. Well that is my excuse and I am sticking to it.
This little town is so friendly and welcoming. Murrurundi, is well worth staying for a couple of days if not longer on your way along the New England Highway. There is a wealth of history here and the people are so proud of their town, although driving through it does not reflect this pride. Yesterday I went to the hotel for their $10lunch for the second time, I was welcomed as if I had been there daily, and then was asked if I was the lady travelling on her own staying at the CP. That gave way to a longer conversation. A really nice sense of belonging in a strange place.
People stop to have a chat as I walk around exploring, these country folk smile and are ready to open a door, move aside as you walk past, and give great customer service, talking to one chap cleaning his car, he offered to come and clean Miss Daisy for me, I declined, but he was geniune in his offer, ( I did it myself), I have loved my time here and once again, as you are travelling through these little towns take the time to stop and get to know it. Not all are the same, but there are so many that are this way. As MoamaJohn reported in the general section, stop at the little towns and give them your support.The larger centres get taken care of no matter what, and we do not want to lose the quinnessential Aussie character that is these little towns.
And just to prove I did clean Miss Daisy I will add proof, and they ask "What do you do all day?" Another show of excellent hospitality, the owner here lent me his broom and bucket to wash Miss Daisy down. Made life a little easier.
Hi, shekon, love reading your posts, its giving me courage to set off, its nice to hear that people are accepting of a solo female traveller. I pickup my MH on Sat 19th, can't wait, still working out where to go first, but hey I don't care, it will be awesome anywhere,. Fran

Now you don't have to stand on your head Shekon.....you are right about small towns, they are the best and most friendly as a rule;

Thank you everyone. It has turned out to be an absolutely beautiful day here.
Fran, I had made up my mind where I was going to go on my first journey, it ended up taking me three months to get there. I tend to get to the corner and then decide where I am going. Most people are accepting of a solo traveller, there are some that are not, usually more prevalent in CP's than free camping. I have decided that it is their problem not mine and they miss out on my company. Took me a little while to get to that point because at times it did bewilder and hurt me, that was my problem not theirs. There are many more nice people out there than not, so go for it and have a blast doing it.
Thanks Vic for putting me back on my feet. As Dougwe said the water would have run off, and not only that Doug I nearly drowned with the water running over my face.
All in all a really great spot and life.

Thanks for another great report, Shekon. I was glad to read what you had to say about small towns, and their friendliness. Being an old Sydney boy, I'm looking forward to discovering lots of little towns and spending sufficient time in each one to get to know it, as well as the locals. It's the real Australia, or so I like to believe.

Great to see you enjoying it all Sharon.
Yes, I agree. The small towns are generally special places. We are in Townsville at the moment. Not my favourite place
but visiting rellos.

Hi Sandsmere, you are certainly at the other end of the country since I seen you last. Enjoy it the best you can, knowing it won't last forever.
Wombat, I know, a bit like the dentist really, can show you what GN's get up to through the day just can't show the face. The poor old man next door when I asked him to take a pic for me, had never seen an IPad that alone knowing how to use one. The first lot of pics were of his fingers, so this was the best of a bad bunch, and one of the best pics I had taken for years I reckon. LOL.
