Hi guys which is best place to stay Fitzroy crossing or Halls need accomodation. We are leaving from Broome heading East. . Currently in Exmouth. Have booked as far as Broome. As school holidays. Sadly we don't have a van. Cheers for any advice ğ

Fitzroy Lodge at Fitzroy Crossing have cabins etc., probably your best bet. Enjoy!

I agree.
When we were at Halls Creek the locals were out of control. Not a pleasant place.
Might be OK now.
Fitzroy Crossing was much better, but around 300km further on, or closer coming from Broome.

Fitzroy Crossing Lodge has motel section. Pleasant place just out of the town, which is good.
You may need another stop before Kununurra. The newish caravan park at the turn off to the Bungles have en-suite safari tent accommodation. Bungle Bungle Caravan Park.

no real choice here, as others have said FC is the place to stop, just before you get to FC you cannot miss the signs for the lodge, not cheap at this time of the year.
It is quite safe and quiet there during the day (but best not to go out at night, especially on pension nights), lots of workers (eg; teachers etc) live there permanently without danger).
I have also been there during a riot one night (extra police had to be flown in from Fitzroy Crossing) we were in the CP but quite safe in there. Very quite in town the next day, lots nursing sore heads or sleeping it off. Some damage to the roadhouse.
Halls Creek has a lot to offer (especially old Halls Creek, Caroline's Pool and China Wall, not to mention Russian Jack)....see the TO for more info......a place not to be missed IMHO!

Yes, have a look around HC but you would be safe in the CP Vic, because of all the barbed wire around the place keeping others out and you in.

Did you visit the sites mentioned Wombat? Be a shame if you didn't.
I even had a shower one time passing through at the local roadhouse, about $2 then.
I stayed at the local CP a couple of times. On the night of the riot the park manager came around and told everyone to keep inside.
I have heard it called the Sister town to Willcania in NSW...
I would certainly stay there again if I needed a break there.

Well you missed some great sights there Wombat just out of town and old Halls Creek, ask Jules and Billeeeeeee, they visited them too.
The bars are to keep Wombats out!
The newish visitor centre at Halls Creek also has nice clean toilets with automated doors etc.
Here is a statue of Russian Jack outside the TO, was outside the council chambers at one time.
we did not miss anything, we saw the places you mention, it does not take long to see them and we left there in the arvo for out next safe free spot to camp, the garage is good, if you ask nice they will let you have some water from a tap around the back

Our stay at Halls Creek was way back in 2000.
In the middle of the day when we arrived there were lots of locals lying on the grass under the trees between the divided roads. No probs.
The Dobermans at the entrance to the CP took exception to me & barked like crazy ... must have been my skinny legs.
Later that evening as the locals were going down town for an evening get together, they ran sticks along the 6' high corregated iron fence while telling out stuff. No probs.
I drove the Patrol down town later to see what the action was & as we pulled up at the stop sign on the highway that passes thru town, a group of locals were crossing the road. A vehicle, maybe 1/2 km up the road put its lights on high beam complete with spots, sounded the horn continuously & plowed thru the intersection at highway speed. This scattered the locals in all directions & fortunately didn't hit any.
I had had enough excitement for the night so I did a u turn & went back to the CP with a good story to tell.
In the morning there was litter & bottles over the entire medium strip. Cleaned up later by a council? truck & work detail.
We enjoyed our stay & did the sights like China Wall & Old Halls Creek. I suppose its no less safe than anywhere as long as you are careful & secure your property.

Halls Creek has adopted a new strategy for alcohol sales, and from talking to a couple of people there it is making a big difference. It seemed a nice quiet place when we visited 2 weeks ago, although on this trip we didn't stay overnight.

Fitzroy Lodge was great when we stayed there last year. The River Croc cruise was good value, not to be missed .Not overly expensive ,either. Enjoy,Cheers Wendy

Have stayed in "Hells Crack" in the c/van park plenty of times when travelling between the Pilbara & the NT, clean, cheap but just an overnight stop, done that trip far too many times in the last ten years. Fitzroy's got a little butchers shop there that does the best sausages you ever tasted, won awards for some, always stop & stock up on my way north or south. Have friends in Fitzroy Crossing but rarely stop overnight, the lodge has a good van park down the back near the safari tents but not cheap in season. Plenty of good free camps along that way just watch out for the bindies everywhere.
