A few nights ago we camped at West Peawah River free camp - 92km sw of Port Hedland.
About 2AM and again at 5AM we had roadtrains going past and sounding their air horns for 10 seconds or so.
I just wondering if they are saying good morning or are saying 'wake you bas**ards'?
Never had this before in the many free camps we've stayed at.
Good Luck.

I think they are just being A'holes Denis, I've never struck it before. Probably bored and wanting a stir...

Hard to look at this in a positive light isn't it. Unless there were roos (or similar) on the road both on the road at 2am and 5am that needed shooing? Otherwise I'm probably with Vic41

That happened on the Stuart H'way at a free camp. We just laughed, poor old truckies are just jealous, they are out there working and here we were retired and enjoying ourselves.

Just venting their feelings at getting stuck behind a caravan/motorhome doing 90KPH on a 110/130KPH road I guess... They have a hard schedule to meet on a daily basis, most of us have a hard time deciding if the sunset would look good from any "roadside stop" by 4:30pm

I think you will find that the maximum road speed for any vehicle over 12 tonnes gross mass is 100 k. p. h.
That includes Busses Semies any vehicle irrespective of the road signage. Eg 110 k. p. h.
It is a National Road Rule.
Have fun Haji-Baba

It is 100 kph max in WA also for caravans, irrespective of weight or higher speed limits shown on signs...

Yes Vic41,
Just looked it up on National Road Rules, I know I am just off topic, but some of us seem to think that speed limits are much highter than law allows.
See under latest Nat R. Rs. Latest ammendment Feb. 2009 Part 3 Speed limits, 21 par 2 and 3.

Thanks Haji Baba, it is relevant though. I recently was travelling at 100kms in the country and was tailgated by a truck trying to push me along as he wanted to go faster, I did not drop below the 100kph limit.
In the end he overtook me sharply causing me to drive onto the gravel shoulder to avoid a collision (he would have clipped me if I hadn't done so). To cut a long story short the truck had some identifying marks on it and I managed to report it later, the driver is no longer working for the company that employed him....
