HI all, we are looking to stay in Port Agusta and we have been told that safety may be an issue. Can anybody reccomend a good caravan park in or near Port Agusta.
Thanks, Tamey

We found the Big 4 the best, stayed there last year. Stayed at the other one just down the road a few years back and we were packed in. Big 4 was the better for us. They can't all be totally secure so be sensible and don't make it easy for thieves. We had no trouble in either park as far as security.

Gday...
I have stayed at the Shoreline Van Park and found it quite good. Top Tourist park and 10% discount for members.
I had heard about "security" in Port Augusta but found it no worse than any other large town. Obviously, normal, sensible security attention with all your valuables - but that applies to every town I haver visited.
Cheers - John

Big 4 at Port Augusta was fine last March, had no issues. But as always , don't leave temptations out.

We stayed at the Shoreline caravan park and found it good. This is a review I wrote about the park after visiting.
"Port Augusta is a City in which a lot of cars and heavy traffic passes through, one of the reasons why we chose this park. It is a way from the main road, and on the waters edge. Good fishing just outside too! We were talking to some guests who had caught a nice size Snapper!
Its a large park with dirt caravan sites, either powered or unpowered. We could choose our own site, this was nice, so we opted for one near the Amenties block. This block included clean showers and toilets, just a short walk away, was the laundry block with coin operated washing machines & dryers, or outside lines for drying. In this area, washing dries fairly quick. For those hot days, jump into the swimming pool for a cool off! For children, a playground, and for campers a TV/recreation room and camp kitchen.
They have plenty of cabins available from cheap, small, large and more expensive and Backpacker's accommodation. Pets are allowed.
The Caravan Park is a "Top Tourist Park," so if you are a member of this group, then you will receive 10% off the price of your accommodation.
Security gates are on the Park entrance.
I wouldn't worry about Port Augusta these days as the town has really cleaned itself up. We were amazed at the difference and never felt uneasy as we saw walked around visiting the sights.

We stayed at a free camp site near the Power House and just down the road from the RV camp that's only for motor homes (no caravans allowed) for 4 nights without a problem.
