We are going on a short 30day trip. Don't have solar.Have a battery to run the lights only.
Need some hints on places to stay on the way.
Leaving east side of Melbourne (B2's near us I think.) Going to Echuca, Swan Hill, Mildura,
Broken Hill, Peterborough S.A., Burra, Gawler/Williamstown,Paringa/Renmark,Balranald,
Hay(Probably at the showgrounds) Deniliquin, and then home for Surgeons visit. If not for that
we would be heading north. We are considering C.P,s but some appear to be very expensive,
so if any one knows of reasonably priced parks that would be good. We could take a gennie,
Porta pottie, and, shower tent, but if staying mainly in parks is it worthwhile?
We will appreciate your thoughts.

Great free camp near Mildura..psyche bend pumps (or some name like that). Lovely spots along the Murray river, watching the boats go by. Stayed at a greyhound racing track somewhere in that direction for $15 night powered spot. Think it's free for unpowered. Just not sure what town it was. But in that general direction. Oh another lovely spot was Lake Lascelles...on the way to Mildura. We left from Halls Gap and headed towards Mildura. Can free camp there or pay small price for powered sites...power to the left as you drive in otherwise free camp anywhere to your right. Some soft sand so careful if you don't have a 4x4!

Sounds a great trip Kevin, enjoy and keep safe.
I have a shower tent (not spring loaded) it has poles, ropes and pegs, nice size but the only time I have set it up was in the back yard to make sure I was able to put it up easily and without looking a bigger dill than I already am never needed it out in the playground so far as a good wash each day has none the job but have had the odd shower but not in the tent, had dips in a lake with no soap and all good so far.
You might find a good wash each day with the odd stay over in a CVP might work well for you in this cooler weather without taking the tent, the loo would be a must I reckon. I prefer to use my mobile loo to some of the public ones.

We recently stayed at Nyah about 30k out of Swan Hill on the Pinnaroo side in the greyhound racing oval , they have toilets and if you go right round the track you can park in a lawned area good spot and free or donation box is on a wall. Williamstown have a basic caravan park , is pretty cold at this time of the year but wouldn't be expensive . You can free camp at Plush' s Bend which is right on the river Murray near Renmark but if it has rained or looks like rain I wouldn't go in but once again a nice spot. Berri caravan park is quite good .

Lake Boga (12klm east of Swan Hill ) on B400 has powered sites $25-. New amenities block with beautiful green grass sites backing on to the lake. (Can be noisy with the highway) CPS in both Echuca & Mildura can be expensive. However at Echuca/Moama there is the Golf Club called Rich River at Moama and is free, dump point and good access to the club. Mildura is starting to get cold and some of the smaller parks would be good value.

Thanks Johnr & jbrinks,
Your suggestions are really good. The beauty of all this is, we can change
destinations, as we find new ones from those who have travelled the roads
before us. The GN knowledge base is fantastic.
Thanks Again

I know that a number of travellers stay at Penrose Park, at Silverton, in preference to Broken Hill, because it is cheaper. Can't vouch personally - although I find Silverton a fascinating place - because we always stay at the Broken Hill Caravan Park.
The caravan park at Peterborough is a very pleasant one.

Kevin, May I suggest that you look at some of the lesser towns to stay at on your trip if you are looking at a few caravan parks along the way. For instance, you mention Echuca. I suggest you stay at Rochester. Short drive to Echuca and a great little park at reasonable cost.
This is typical of travelling anywhere. The main destinations have a main cost to match but, generally, within a few K's you can find a small park for a lot less.
Enjoy

Hi Guys,
Yes Penrose Park is on the list, hadn't thought about Rochester though.
Thanks for the advice Wendyv and Phantom.
